On June 13th, a seemingly routine drive home turned into a life-saving intervention for one local resident. As chaos unfolded on the streets—cars swerving, people running—the actions of Brandon Ostrup prevented a potential disaster. As Brandon approached the intersection in Utah he witnessed a truck colliding with a power pole. The impact shattered the pole, causing primary power lines to arc dangerously on the ground. Flames erupted, threatening nearby structures and lives. Instinct kicked in. Without hesitation, Brandon grabbed his fire extinguisher from the vehicle and rushed to battle the flames. The heat was intense, but he managed to suppress the fire, preventing it from spreading further. However, the danger was far from over. Another resident, equally concerned, arrived with her own fire extinguisher. But as she stepped closer, Brandon realized the peril she was about to face. The live power lines lay just feet away, their lethal voltage coursing through the ground. Brandon shouted, urging her to stop. She froze, extinguisher in hand, away from the exposure from disaster. The concept of “step potential” became crucial. When electrical faults occur, the ground around them can become energized. Stepping across this electrified ground creates a voltage difference between a person’s feet, potentially leading to electric shock. In this case, the resident was unknowingly risking her life. Brandon circled around her, collecting her extinguisher while maintaining a safe distance from the live power lines. His priority was clear: keep people away until emergency responders arrived. This harrowing incident highlights the importance of quick thinking, awareness, and understanding electrical hazards. Had the resident stepped closer, tragedy might have struck. Congratulations, Brandon, you’ve proven “One Team, One Goal" and have been awarded with the Quanta Safety Commitment Coin. #safety #WeAreQuanta #Community
