About us

The Northern District of Florida, Federal Public Defender's Office was established in 1977. The Northern District consists of four divisions, Pensacola, Panama City, Tallahassee and Gainesville. Our headquarters are stationed in Tallahassee, with branch offices in Pensacola and Gainesville. The Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals appointed Charles S. Williams as the first Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of Florida on October 10, 1977. Robert J. Vossler began with the office as an assistant defender on November 17, 1980, and the Court appointed him as the Federal Public Defender on June 16, 1982. The Court appointed Randolph P. Murrell on November 2, 1998.
