During this month Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Board would like to inform our community about issues related to child sexual abuse and sexual assault. These are difficult, uncomfortable topics to discuss but child sexual abuse and sexual assault have likely affected you or someone close to you; a family member or friend. This is a serious problem that affects many people; children, teens, women and men but because of the stigma attached to being a victim of such an attack we pretend we can forget about it, not talk about it and move on as if nothing happened. We can transform this by the way we think and talk about sexual assault within our families and communities. If we are able to cultivate environments and relationships that allow us to feel safe to report any abuse in the past or in the future, we can find healing and prevent future abuse to happen.
