One of the things we’re committed to pushing back against The Just Trust are the harmful and pervasive narratives that lead many to believe that making tangible improvements to our justice system is simply a pipe dream. From where I stand, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Here is a thread of just some of the wins we’re seeing across our country… 1. The bipartisan Federal Prison Oversight Act passed in the House recently and just this week also passed the Senate, thanks to the efforts of FAMM , Prison Fellowship, American Conservative Union, and others. This bill marks a significant step forward in prison safety reform. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eNJx8AkS 2. Prison Journalism Project recently launched “A Prison Writers Guide to Media Writing,” supporting incarcerated writers with training and certification opportunities. Proud to support this initiative alongside Northwestern University, The Marshall Project , and others. 3. Council on Criminal Justice's Crime Trends Working Group's latest efforts were highlighted by The Washington Post, urging quicker access to crime data for better policymaking. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ewbmRDvK 4. In Oklahoma, The Sentencing Project's advocacy led to the override of the Governor’s veto on the OK Domestic Violence Survivors Act. This victory allows for resentencing and amplifies the voices of incarcerated survivors. https://loom.ly/_q4ZQwA 5. And lastly, s/o to Responsible Business Initiative for Justice on the legislative wins in Colorado and Tennessee with occupational licensing reforms. These efforts will remove barriers to employment for thousands. Learn more about the reforms in Colorado: https://loom.ly/N5a1HTE What would you all add to this thread? Comment below!
