Let users swap metrics & timeframes in charts with field selectors in Omni 🥅 Then, create ✨ parent controls ✨ to adjust multiple field selectors at once — like changing all $ fields to €, or all date fields from months to quarters 🪄

This was the goal when we started Omni - be able to bridge fast, productive ad-hoc analytics and spreadsheeting with the governance and control of a data model, all in one place. Excited to see it delivering.

🧑💻 One of our customers shared how they're using Markdown to build a custom, interactive image grid on a dashboard. We were so excited about it that we wanted to implement it ourselves! 📈 In Omni, you can go beyond out-of-the-box visualizations with Markdown. Whether you're building charts from scratch or plugging some Markdown into an existing chart to make it dynamic, you can use Markdown to tailor your dashboards to your team and your embedded users.

🎉 A few weeks ago, we hit the 1-year anniversary of our weekly engineering demos. They're part of our commitment to our customers and to ourselves: to ship great stuff, and to ship fast. 3️⃣2️⃣3️⃣ Last year, we posted 323 demos over 52 weeks — which means 6+ new features or enhancements every week for our customers. 👉 We're going to start highlighting our demos every Friday so you can see what our team's been working on. Let us know in the comments what features you're most excited about! — To kick us off, here are a few exciting demos from the past few weeks: 📌 Push down to dbt using {{ref}} syntax — write dbt models from Omni with dbt syntax 🎛️ Parent controls for timeframe and field selectors — control currency and time granularity at a dashboard-level  👤 User attributes in scheduled reports — send one dashboard to many recipients, each with different filters applied Check out the links in the comments to watch the demos. We'll be back with more next Friday! 👋

Over 10 years as a data consumer in previous roles, my ability to meaningfully explore on my own was limited to Salesforce. Because BI wasn't built for me. In three months at Omni, I've gotten more self-service value from data than in that decade combined. Literally. (Yes, I literally mean literally.) Huge praise to the Omni Product & Engineering teams for building a solution that thrills advanced data teams and business users alike. 🙇♂️

🪄 The magic of Excel is fine-tuning your data exactly how you want to. In a spreadsheet, you can play with different assumptions, add one-off adjustments to certain cells, or write text to provide context on a calculation. 👉 We're trying to bring some of that magic into BI, too. With Omni's Excel calcs, you can do annotations and adjustments on individual cells so you can adjust your data how you want to. 👀 Check out this example inspired by a real analysis our CEO Colin Zima did — adjusting revenue numbers, inputting monthly targets, and creating KPIs, all making BI feel as dynamic as a spreadsheet.

Building companies is hard. You have to take advantage of shortcut from product building, customer development, recruiting. Here are a bunch of composed thoughts from Jordan Tigani and I about doing it a second time (or in Jordan's case a third time!). TLDR; it gets easier and founder-market fit is the ultimate cheat code. For folks thinking about new companies - it's hard to appreciate the depth of context you have about the problems you've been living every day. For me, the intersection of being a Looker/data customer and then building the platform has been core to how we've tried to borrow the good and rebuild the mistakes with Omni.

Recently, Omni co-founder & CEO Colin Zima and MotherDuck founder & CEO Jordan Tigani sat down for an unscripted chat about the past, present, and future of the data stack. It was a 🦆 quackingly 🦆 good time, packed with insights about how the data industry has changed and where it's going. We consolidated their duck-scussion into a blog for easy reading.
