Today is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. According to The State of Self Care for Black Women Report by Exhale 53% of the women surveyed said they don’t believe their current work environment provides supportive resources for them. This support includes pay equity. “Black women face many barriers to achieving pay equity, including pay discrimination, occupational segregation, racial and gender-based disparities in salaries, retirement savings, student loan debt, and other factors limiting the ability to build wealth. Black women typically earn only 66 cents on the dollar to what white, non-Hispanic men make, according to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR). Black Women’s Equal Pay Day is one of those yearly observances we don’t celebrate as a holiday—it’s more of a reminder, a marker, a warning.” *Excerpt from National Organization for Women (NOW). #equalpay #blackwomensequalpayday #equity #payequity #equalpayday

Almost 2 in 5 (36%) Black women have left their jobs because they felt unsafe, according to a new report by EXHALE, a wellbeing app for Black, Indigenous, Women of Color (BIWOC) by KATECHA CORP. “As Black Women, we’re surrounded with messages telling us we’re strong and resilient enough to manage stress, but this survey proves that a lack of necessary support negatively impacts us,” said Katara McCarty, founder of EXHALE. “We need culturally appropriate resources and tools that address the effects of racial trauma on mental, emotional, and physical health.”
