  • There are ∼700,000 open cybersecurity positions in the U.S. alone. The last National Cyber Workforce and Education Summit at the White House unveiled significant initiatives that merit attention from the #cybersecurity community, including a National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy. (Read the factsheet below for more info, or visit: https://lnkd.in/g_CK4QDu) This activity signals a pressing need for immediate action to address the cybersecurity talent gap. Major tech firms have pledged to train hundreds of thousands in cyber skills, but we need more hands on deck. We encourage our followers to explore the many educational opportunities and programs offered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) through the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE): https://lnkd.in/dNBZxSH. NICE aims 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘻𝘦, 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢 𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘺𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵. The cybersecurity market is growing and poised for sustained expansion. As subject matter experts, we are monitoring these developments closely and considering how they might shape the future of cybersecurity innovation and talent acquisition across industries. “The best time to train your workforce in cybersecurity was 20 years ago. • Concerned about cloud safety? Meet 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. It's like a bodyguard for your software, detecting suspicious activity in real time and stopping threats before they can cause damage. Here's how runtime security secures your cloud environment across 4 layers: 1️⃣ Infrastructure Layer: Monitors the underlying cloud infrastructure, including virtual machines, containers, and serverless functions that power cloud applications. 2️⃣ Network Layer: Analyzes network traffic patterns and behaviors to detect anomalies and potential threats. 3️⃣ Application Layer: Focuses on application-specific activities, monitoring APIs, user behaviors, and data access patterns. 4️⃣ Data Layer: Protects sensitive information by tracking data movement, access, and usage across the cloud environment. Each layer provides a crucial line of defense, working together to create a comprehensive runtime security strategy. We recently partnered with Sweet Security, a company specializing in cloud runtime security, investing $33 million in Series A funding to expand its suite of runtime security solutions, emphasizing detection, response, vulnerability management, API security, and more. • Do you still value growth over profitability in SaaS? 🤔 The Rule of 40 sets the industry standard for healthy growth, where the sum of the growth rate and profit margin should be 40% or above. However, as companies grow, maintaining high growth rates becomes more challenging, so they often focus on increasing profitability to maintain a good Rule of 40 score. We wrote about the importance of weighting growth vs. profitability based on the company's stage, economic environment, and investor preferences. Only ∼3% of companies can maintain high growth rates in large, concentrated markets. It wouldn’t be accurate to value growth as much as in earlier stages. Some tips on achieving the Rule of 40 as growth stalls:  1. Set realistic growth targets 2. Prioritize net retention (aim for 120% or more) 3. Optimize go-to-market spend 4. Look for strategic partnerships and acquisition opportunities 5. Use data-driven decision-making. • 90% of data breaches in 2024 will likely include the human element. Regrettably, although they meet compliance standards, traditional Security Awareness and Training (SA&T) programs are inadequate in mitigating workforce-related cyber risks. This is a reality that more and more leaders are coming to terms with. We’ve discussed how Human Risk is quickly rising as a C-level concern.  (https://lnkd.in/ev4H6uJA) But there’s a significant shift in the category right now, led substantially by Evolution’s portfolio company CybSafe, by promoting 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗛𝗥𝗠) as a more comprehensive approach to managing human-related cybersecurity risks. HRM goes beyond SA&T: - Identifying and influencing risky behaviors - Instilling a positive security culture - Moving beyond content and experiential learning - Measuring human risk factors through third-party data integrations - Implementing targeted behavioral, policy-based, and contextual interventions - Demonstrating impact on cyber risk reduction. Thanks to CybSafe, organizations can leverage data proactively regarding human-related cyber risk instead of entirely relying on reactive SA&T programs. We at Evolution Equity Partners couldn’t be more excited about the value they’re creating for enterprises worldwide amidst a challenging cybersecurity landscape. • Global supply chain cyber-attacks are projected to surpass $80.6 billion by 2026. How can software companies help customers reduce these financial losses? Implement DevSecOps DevSecOps is a framework that integrates security throughout software development (SDLC), fostering collaboration between developers, security, and operations. It's a cultural shift making security a shared responsibility for building secure applications faster. 👇 3 Reasons Why DecSecOps is Essential for Secure Software Delivery 1 /// Customers Have Higher Expectations  Security is no longer a checkbox to avoid trouble; it's a critical investment. Customers demand not just "secure-enough" products but the most secure options within their budget. 2 /// Shifting Security Left Secures Code Faster and Cheaper Security weaknesses are identified and addressed as code is written. This reduces lingering undetected vulnerabilities that become visible much later in development when they are more time-consuming and expensive to fix. 3 /// Breaking Down Silos Increases Developer Velocity Continuous collaboration between development, security, and operations teams seamlessly integrates security practices throughout the entire process. There's no longer the disruptive "security as an afterthought" problem often present in DevOps-only environments. According to a GitLab report, 58% of IT operations and security leaders said they have difficulty getting development to prioritize vulnerability remediation, underscoring the necessity of a DevSecOp approach. At EEP, we believe prioritizing security alongside development and operations is the way forward to deliver high-quality, secure applications that meet market demands. See below for a detailed breakdown of how the DevSecOp toolchain works 🛠️ Sources: Gartner, GitLab, and Juniper Research #cybersecurity #enterprise #saas #venturecapital #identity #privacy #data Want to stay on top of the latest trends in Cybersecurity? 🔔 Follow Evolution Equity Partners on LinkedIn.
