🏔️🌊 Announcing the 2024 Alpine Rivers Symposium! 🌊 🏔️ ✨We are thrilled to officially announce the inaugural 2024 Alpine Rivers Symposium. As part partner event of the EUGreenWeek, we invite everyone to join us on August 9-11 in the historic city of Burghausen, Germany, for an event dedicated to how we can understand and manage our precious Alpine rivers together. Attendance is free of charge, of course. Did you know that the Alps contain an estimated 40% of Europe's freshwater? But they're also changing rapidly. 👥 Co-convened by the City of Burghausen and Onewater in the Technical University of Munich Academy Center, this two-day event will bring together scientists, policy-makers, practitioners, and the general public from the 8 Alpine countries to explore the geographical, cultural and economic aspects of this abundant region. 🔍 What's on the agenda? • Engaging discussions on the future of Alpine rivers • Insightful presentations on sustainable practices and adaptation strategies • A rich side program including film screenings, educational presentations, artistic workshops and outdoor activities • A photo exhibition from the UNESCO x Onewater photostory on ‘Water for Peace and Prosperity’ 🌿 Special highlights: • Field trip to a transboundary river restoration site with a 90 minute river boat ride back to the city. • Water Day: Led by Pascal Rößler, engage in fun activities like stand-up paddle boarding on the Wöhrsee lake and the Salzach River • Market & educational presentations: Discover and learn from materials and booths hosted by organizations like the German Alpine Association and the Bund Naturschutz. As the Alps face rapid changes - with precipitation patterns changing and predictions that 90% of Alpine glaciers will eventually disappear in the coming decades - the time for action and adaptation is now. 📢 The symposium will be held in both German and English and will be open to everyone. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this important conversation.
