Last week, volunteers from The Re-Write It Project and West Monroe came together to assemble hundreds of school supply kits for Erie patients. This effort underscores Erie’s commitment to supporting patients beyond medical needs. We are incredibly grateful to West Monroe and The Re-Write It Project for their support. With over 45% of Erie patients under the age of 18, these contributions are particularly impactful. Interested in connecting your organization with Erie? Email us at development@eriefamilyhealth.org!

🦾📚 Celebrating Disability Pride Month by Elevating Disabled Voices 📚🦾 This Disability Pride Month, let’s dive into the rich, diverse world of literature by disabled authors. 🌟✨ Why read books by disabled authors? 🔸 Authentic Perspectives: Disabled authors provide genuine, lived experiences that deepen our understanding and empathy. Their stories are raw, real, and profoundly impactful. 🦽✍️ 🔸 Diverse Narratives: Disabled voices bring fresh, unique narratives to the table. They challenge stereotypes and broaden our view of what it means to live with a disability. 🌍💬 🔸 Representation Matters: Seeing oneself reflected in literature is powerful. For disabled individuals, it’s a beacon of recognition and validation, fostering a sense of belonging and pride. 🧩❤️ 🔸 Breaking Barriers: By supporting disabled authors, we help dismantle barriers in the literary world, paving the way for more inclusive and diverse storytelling. 🌈🚀 Book Recommendations: "Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century" edited by Alice Wong "Golem Girl" by Riva Lehrer "Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law" by Haben Girma "Mean Little Deaf Queer" by Terry Galloway "Beauty is a Verb: The New Poetry of Disability" edited by Sheila Black, Jennifer Bartlett, and Michael Northen Let’s support and amplify disabled voices in literature this month and beyond! 📖✨ #DisabilityPrideMonth #ReadDisabledAuthors #InclusionMatters #LiteraryDiversity #AmplifyDisabledVoices #RepresentationMatters #InclusiveLiterature

🌟 Celebrating Disability Pride Month! 🌟 This July, we honor Disability Pride Month in recognition of the American Disabilities Act (ADA), signed into law on July 26, 1990. 🎉 The ADA is a landmark federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. It ensures that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to: 💼 Enjoy employment opportunities 🛍️ Purchase goods and services 🏛️ Participate in state and local government programs As we celebrate this month, let's acknowledge the incredible contributions and achievements of the disability community and continue to promote inclusion, equality, and accessibility for all. 💪❤️ #DisabilityPrideMonth #ADA #Inclusion #Equality #Accessibility Image Description: 2 people are in wheelchairs, 1 person is using sign language, and 1 person is skateboarding. The pride flag background is in the background with colors: red, yellow, white, blue, green, and black. The words shown are "Disability Pride Month" and "erie".

The #DisabilityPride flag was created by disabled artist Ann Magill to show pride and solidarity for the disability community. The black background symbolizes mourning and rage for victims of ableist violence or abuse and each colored stripe represents a different type of disability: Red: Physical Yellow: Cognitive and Intellectual White: Invisible and undiagnosed Blue: Psychosocial Green: Sensory The original flag created in 2019 was bright and had zig zag stripes but members of the disability shared feedback that the bright colors and/or zig zag stripes could negatively trigger their disabilities, such as migraines and seizures. The updated Disability Pride flag was released in October 2021. Image description: The background is the Disability Pride flag of diagonal colors. The colors from right to left are: black, red, yellow, white, blue, green. The text is “Erie” and “It’s Disability Pride Month”. There are people with raised fists and two are carrying purple flags.

Erie employees and their families gathered ahead of the Chicago Pride Parade yesterday to recognize Pride Month and share our support of our Queer communities. At Erie, we celebrate the dignity and worth of each of our patients and staff, and value everyone’s unique differences. It may be the end of Pride month, but its not the end of our pride. 🌈 #pridemonth 🌈
