If you’ve caught a Broadway show, a jazz performance, or your favorite stand-up comedian on our campus in the last 15+ years, then you most definitely know the Bruce sisters. They’re like fireworks: bright, bubbly, and bringing the party wherever they go! Two of them are Broadway subscribers, and all three have been performing arts fans their entire lives. What a night 🤩! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Great Stages Gala and Concert in Marian Anderson Hall. The energy and enthusiasm surrounding this historic occasion was palpable. We’re still starstruck from the spectacular lineup! 🌟🌟 Queen Latifah served as our incomparable host, and Music and Artistic Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra were joined by Latonia Moore, Audra McDonald, Angel Blue, Marcus Roberts, and the St. Thomas Gospel Choir for deeply impactful performances connected to Marian Anderson. The concert opened with “My Country, ’Tis of Thee” and closed with a newly orchestrated version of Florence Price’s “My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord,” both sung by Marian Anderson on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1939 after she was denied the opportunity to sing at Constitution Hall in Washington, DC because of her race. Thank you to all who joined us on Saturday for this spectacular event and we hope to see you at the Great Stages Gala and Concert in 2025! Celebrate the dedication of Marian Anderson Hall by contributing here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eA5xCpvr

"I'm absolutely thrilled to bring all my experiences in the world of jazz back home to Philly and invest my talents in the community that supported me and made me who I am as a human, [an] artist, and teacher." 🎺 To celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month, we want to shout out one of our amazing staff members, Josh Lawrence! Read on to learn more about his musical background, his love of jazz education, and get a sneak peek of his upcoming performance with students from the Ensemble Arts Jazz Collective at Chris’ Jazz Cafe! ➡ https://lnkd.in/eZj9CBPZ
