    "Teamwork makes the dream work!" UGH - I hate this phrase. Here's why... It's typically said with dripping sarcasm and makes someone within ear shot give a big eye roll. I'm all about positivity... but I was born & raised in Missouri, known as the 'Show Me' state. So for me, it's more about "actions speak louder than words". Until we realize what defines a team (not just reporting the same boss), I wonder how many "teams" are actually rowing the boat in the SAME direction... And if there is anyone actually at the helm of the boat ... you know 'leading'... making sure that 'direction' is the RIGHT direction! As leaders, let's stop using trite phrases without backing it up with action. Don't assume everyone is on the same page, working towards the same goal. Lead by making sure everyone actually knows the vision/mission. That they BUY IN to that vision/mission. That they UNDERSTAND they are vital to it. That they FEEL they play an important role in it. Then, as the LEADER, work to break down walls that prevent collaboration. ... within your team ... and with other teams. Be the champion for collaboration. Lead to MAKE it happen... not just TALK about it. ____ I work with corporate leaders to retain your high-performing employees, build collaborative teams, and boost productivity.     IGNORING bad behavior = EMPOWERING bad behavior Ignoring = tolerating tolerating = accepting accepting = enabling enabling = empowering If you DON'T have that difficult conversation - NOW - realize what message you are sending... BOTH to the person with the bad behavior AND to your team.

    Meaningful RECOGNITION is different for each person... Some like the attention of public recognition ...others prefer personal, private recognition. True leaders also understand that ... while FEEDBACK is important ...HOW it is given matters the most.

    True leaders know that blame, shame, and finger pointing are NOT how you build great teams. They know that micro-managing or hoping for the best is NOT how you learn & grow. Instead, true leaders support you... they remove obstacles, ask the right questions, listen to the answers and realize that each person has... different strengths, weaknesses, and career growth plans. No one said leadership was easy ... it is more than just a title & more money ... it is a journey of growth for both you AND your team.
