As a manufacturer, everyone is looking to decrease time to market and drive efficiency wherever possible. PTC has made waves in the past few years with the concept of Model-Based Definition (MBD), or replacing your 2D product drawings with smart, annotated 3D models that contain information like your dimensions or tolerances. However, there lies even more opportunity in the Model-Based Product Development (MBPD) approach. The key difference being that MBPD extends MBD throughout the organization into supply chain, marketing, and more, allowing for company-wide benefits not exclusive to engineering, as well as a real single source of truth for product info. By leveraging Creo, a PTC Technology, you have access to key functionality such as simulation, generative design, surfacing, and documentation under the same roof as your CAD modeling/design work. This also drives less integrations and tools for the overall organization. With Element's expertise, and PTC's incredible software suite, let us bring your manufacturing organization into the future. Last week, we touched on the concept of the Model-Based Definition, or moving your product information into 3D models for smarter data consumption across the organization. These initiatives can often extend well beyond the software, making it extremely important to have a well-defined roadmap, executive leadership buy-in, as well as knowledge transfer for the workforce on new practices and capabilities. But how can you start to see value from these initiatives? -Get the proper buy-in, and start with engineering -Make sure the software solutions are compatible and can be consumed in other places -Documentation is key, learn what works best -When ready, broaden the initiative to a single department, to show the benefits/use case to the rest of the organization -Also important to test the initiative with a trusted supplier to see the impact to supply chain As a proud PTC partner, Element can leverage our expertise to drive your MBD initiative strategy and success. Is it truly possible to eventually eliminate the 2D CAD drawing? One game-changing approach Element has seen is the concept of Model-Based Definition (MBD) and Model-Based Enterprise (MBE). By moving product and manufacturing information (PMI) into your 3D models, you are not only shifting the creation of the design documentation to a centralized location, but also changing how that data is consumed across the organization. This can have tremendous benefits for your company, including: - Freeing up valuable engineering time for problem-solving or product analysis - Enhanced Data Accessibility and Flexibility - Minimized Documentation Errors - Accelerated Creation of Derived Deliverables It is important to note, large, multiple-silo efforts such as these often have cultural change, business process, and political components to consider. Since the changes usually impact many teams in the organization, cross-functional teams and champions are key to ensuring everyone is in alignment. Reach out if you ever have any Windchill, a PTC Technology or Creo, a PTC Technology needs, Element would be happy to see what we can do. Have a great weekend. #CAD #3DModel #ModelBasedDefinition #ModelBasedEnterprise #PTC #Windchill #Creo

In today's manufacturing world, PLM and ERP systems both have a vital role to play in your organization's success. Teams must be able to quickly, and often remotely, work across multiple silos and access vital data, all while maintaining a solid change control process. How can you make this happen? In our latest E-book showcase, PTC provides a fantastic, thorough breakdown of PLM and ERP systems, as well as best practices for what data should be stored where, and insight into integrations/the digital thread.
