I love these labels. This week was full of blessings, a big one being spending some time with a client looking at a completed EPSCO Arc Flash Study just outside of Washington, DC. It was one of the toughest projects in the past decade for us, but as William Gibson once said, “When you want to know how things really work, study them when they’re coming apart.” So I took the opportunity to go see why it fell apart and came up with a list of ways to improve. More to follow on that!!! While I was onsite, I met a young electrician named Charlie. He was new to the trade and was still learning the ropes of electrical safety. We stood in-front of a couple panels with the EPSCO labels (in pics on my page), and I asked him what PPE he should wear if he were to work on this equipment. He looked at me as if I was joking, pointed at the label, and said, “The stuff in the picture…”. Lol, I thought to myself, “We nailed it!” We got the guy to wear the right PPE. Einstein said, “If you can't explain it to a six-year-old, then you don't understand it yourself”. That is how our labels should communicate also. As EPSCO moves forward, our focus will be on Charlie. We will serve his wife and his kids making sure Dad is coming home safe. We are so very grateful for the engineers who look to split hairs on the nuanced difference between thee and thou. Some save from collapsed bridges, some just inflate egos and Microsoft's stock price, either way, there is a place for it, and our place will be in steel toes on a concrete floor at an industrial facility. For those who want to join us, we will see you there!
Ever wonder what's in a label? It should be more than just a “sticker”; it's a map that guides you through the electrical landscape, marking safe passages with clear indicators of system voltage, arc flash boundaries, and the protective gear needed to navigate it safely. It's like having a conversation with your equipment, ensuring you and your team can work with confidence, backed by the wisdom of your selected engineering firm and various consensus standards. Let's peel back the layers together, making safety simple and accessible, one label at a time. (Code Ref: NFPA 70E 130.5(H) #EPSCO #ElectricalPowerSafetyCompany
