On June 29, 2024, Eugene Walker Jr. spent time mentoring students during the Conrad dining etiquette class hosted by Dr. Emmett J. Conrad Leadership Program. Established by Texas State Senator Royce West, the program was created to provide students with an opportunity to develop their academic and professional competency through community partner mentorship, leadership workshops, innovative project assignments, inspired presentations and community service opportunities that generate positive impact on social change. Special thanks to Kenne Johnson, MPH for the invitation.

EJ Smith Construction is excited to participate in the City of Dallas' Mentor Protege Program. We have crafted a great curriculum for our proteges. Recently, our team hosted Alonzo H., Elevated Solutions Team and John Chiles, One Design Construction & Development during our monthly work session. It's wonderful to see collaboration and knowledge-sharing in action!

On May 2, 2024, Shameka McCoy, MBA - Marketing from the City of Dallas Small Business Center launched the inaugural 2024 Mentor Protégé Program. The program aims to foster relationships between Prime contractors and Minority, Women-owned, and Small Business Enterprises (M/W/SBE). Excitingly, EJ Smith Construction will serve as a mentor to Elevated Solutions Team, Alonzo H. and One Design Construction & Development, John Chiles. The program’s objective is to provide professional guidance and facilitate growth and development to participants. The one-year pilot program will include training sessions, workshops, one-on-one mentoring, and networking opportunities.

Every year, the Regional Hispanic Contractors Association (RHCA) celebrates the Day of the Construction Worker to recognize the dedication and effort of our diligent construction crews. The #TrinityAlliance team participated in this meaningful event, expressing gratitude to the families of these workers. Kudos to EJ Smith Construction team Carlos Pacheco, Jose Garay, and Gustavo Pacheco for their nominations as Construction Workers of the Year, and to Isidro Chacon for the Foreman of the Year nomination! #safetyfirst

Last week was National Safety Week!!! The The Beck Group and EJ Smith Construction team was honored to receive the Gold Step Award for their work on the UT Dallas Arts & Performance Complex Athenaeum Phase 1 project. Congratulations to Juan Torres Imperial, CSP, ASP, CSHO and Pedro E. Nieves for your continued leadership in safety. As our McCarthy/ EJ Smith Construction team starts work on the Southern Gateway Park in Dallas this month, let's throw it back to February when we gathered the project team together for a Day of Service. We worked with Southern Gateway Park Foundation and local community leaders to identify three homes near the park site that needed help with yard work. Last week The University of Texas at Dallas Edith and Peter O’Donnell Jr Athenaeum Phase 1 team was awarded the Gold Step Award for demonstrated leadership in safety excellence. Our McCarthy/ EJ Smith Construction team participated in a press conference at the Southern Gateway Park jobsite where Pete Buttigieg, United States Secretary of Transportation, highlighted the U.S. Department of Transportation Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods grants program and announced a grant that will go towards the construction of the next phase of the new park! Mayor Eric Johnson and other Dallas-Fort Worth leaders also spoke at the event. We are excited to be constructing this transformative park that will reconnect the historic Oak Cliff neighborhood and look forward to seeing how this project will positively impact the Dallas community for years to come! #McCarthyBuild #BuildingCommunities #CommunityBuilder
