56% of websites fail performance metrics set by Google. Here's how you can make sure that's not you: Go to pagespeed. web. dev type in your url and look for your Core Web Vitals (top of the page). They should all be green (passing). IF you're failing here's the danger: * Google is going to rank you lower on your search terms * People are going to bounce from your site * Your conversion rates will suffer So now the question for site owners is... what do you do about it? BAD(ish) NEWS Each industry, company, and page will have different solutions i.e.: * Upgrading your tech stack to updated versions * Deferring below-the-fold content loading * Implementing multi-layered caching * Optimizing assets like images, fonts, videos, etc. * Using HTTP/3 for faster data transfer * Compressing payloads & assets * Utilizing browser capabilities like service workers The list goes on and on. GOOD NEWS There's never been more resources out there for optimizing web applications: * web. dev * developer. mozilla. org * w3. org/webperf/ And if you don't see your solution above, solving web performance problems is part of my job. If you've got questions about your team's performance strategy, feel free to comment or DM me.

If you work in Media and are interested in engineering, or technology, you should tune into this post. Coming from big tech years ago, I did not consider "media" to be one that requires constant technological innovation and adoption or pushes technology forward. I was wrong. After watching the teams at our clients like Bloomberg, NBC, Univision, etc… "media" is a technology arms race day in and out. Who can publish first? Whose site is faster? Who's adopting the newest technology (AMP, Apple News, etc)? Streaming platforms, CTV, interactive broadcast, the list goes on. That's why we started The Loop at Econify, to give our engineers an edge over the competition and keep them updated on all the latest software and tech industry news. We send a concise monthly email summarizing the most recent tech updates that our engineers working with our clients need to know. Starting this year, we're open sourcing it to anyone interested. Check out the archive and find our signup link here: https://lnkd.in/dJhvYDNx. Here's some title highlights to give you an idea of what you're getting into: 1️⃣ "GitHub Copilot Chat Now Available": We keep up to date on the mainstream AI engineering tooling. All of our engineering teams are (compliantly) AI enabled. 2️⃣ "A Deep Dive into React Server Components": We reported early on React's development of Server Components (https://lnkd.in/dY2EcJKs) (RSC) for general release, a move that is sure to be a major landmark in the Javascript ecosystem. 3️⃣ "Move Over Node.js, Bun is Here": Anyone working in the JavaScript ecosystem should keep their eyes on Bun, a new Javascript runtime designed to make building software faster and less frustrating. 🔗 Like what you see? Catch the full details in the February issue of The Loop: Econify.com/theloop. WARNING: It is tech heavy, but actively ties back into business needs. Feel free to share your feedback, whether good or bad, and let us know your thoughts on how we can improve.

In 2023, Next.js leapt from 11th to 6th 📈 in web framework popularity and ranked as the 3rd most desired framework solidifying its holding power in the enterprise web development space. If you’ve started any new enterprise web projects in the past 3 years, chances are your dev team built your application with Next.js. Since releasing v13 and now v14, development within the framework has completely changed. They’ve addressed some big performance pitfalls and wanted to keep up with paradigm shifts gaining relevance from frameworks like Remix. I was a key component of a recent Next13 / React Server Component migration and my client saw: - A 50% improvement in performance metrics. - A 50% reduction in bytes served and network requests. - A 70% decrease in initial bundle size. - Significantly improved page load times and visual metrics. These achievements were more than just improved statistics; they were a reflection of what's possible with dedication and the right technology. And don’t be fooled. These are not vanity metrics. In today’s world of SEO and user experience, this translates directly into dollars. 🔍 To My Fellow Engineers and Leaders: If you're considering or already on your way to migrating to NextJS 13 or 14, send me a LinkedIn DM and let’s talk about it. I’d love to talk shop about what these framework changes mean for engineering teams and technology on the web. I think Next.js is that important. Whether you're seeking guidance, curious about the potential impacts, or just want to discuss tech, I'm here for it.
