Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
About us
Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 800,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Today, Habitat for Humanity is largest non-publically traded construction company in the United States, and the only nonprofit organization in list of the Top 20 homebuilders. DuPage Habitat’s Mission Statement: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. DuPage Habitat’s Vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live. We believe that owning a home is major milestone on the road to a family's financial success, and a key component of community's economic stability. In DuPage County approximately 2 out of 10 very low income families have access to affordable housing. At DuPage Habitat we don't address this by providing a hand out, rather we offer a hand up by enabling our partner families to achieve the pride of homeownership working side by side with community volunteers to build or repair their home. Since 1995, DuPage Habitat has sold homes to over 75 limited-income families with over 170 children. Over the next three years our ambitious goal is to serve over 80 hardworking families which we estimate will provide a safe, stable and healthy environment for over 220 children.

The first institutions for disabled people were founded in the late 1700s-1800s and continued through the late 1900s, with rampant reports of abuse and neglect. Almost half a million people from the ages of 18-64 were in long-term facilities. . A 2018 study reported that there are still group homes across the nation that indicate severe neglect and abuse, not following safety procedures, and not complying with appropriate reports. 900,000 people under the age of 64 are believed to still live in some sort of institution. . As we understand the damaging effects of institutions for people with disabilities, tomorrow we will look at how independent living brings housing solution outcomes for all! . #habitatforhumanity #equity #inclusion #accessability #disabilityindependence #together #community #advocate #educate #affordablehousing #home #disabilityawareness

As we close out July, we are recognizing Disability Independence Day. . Even with programs like Supplemental Security Income (SSI), 4.1 million disabled people still cannot afford an apartment in the United States without further support. . Due to accessibility and high costs, both renting and owning a place to call home become much more difficult for a person with disabilities. . Join us in the coming week as we look at disability independence + housing! . #habitatforhumanity #equity #inclusion #accessability #disabilityindependence #together #community #advocate #educate #affordablehousing #home #disabilityawareness

Born in Chicago in 1871, Marion Mahony Griffin was one of the first licensed female architects and one of the founding members of the Prairie School architectural style. . In 1895, Frank Lloyd Wright hired Mahony as his first employee and many of the drawings and designs popularly credited to Wright were actually done by Mahony.
