Providing age-appropriate online experiences is a key component of digital #trustandsafety. But each service’s uses differ, as do the expectations of its users, accordingly approaches to age assurance vary across services. A new DTSP report advances understanding of technical approaches to #ageassurance. It describes a range of best practices – specifically, five guiding principles for age assurance and three dozen examples of best practices in line with those principles. Big thanks to everyone who joined and contributed to GNI and Digital Trust and Safety Partnership's first European Rights & Risks Assessment Forum this week in Brussels! Our multistakeholder exploration of assessing systemic risks to fundamental rights, as part of implementing the European Union's Digital Services Act, was rich, insightful, and opened doors to collaborative learning. Special thanks to our colleagues at DTSP, who's support in co-organizing was indispensable to the success of the event. Read our blog to learn more about the Forum: https://lnkd.in/eTVCPEcK

What an exhilarating week in Brussels! Huge thanks to everyone who joined the Digital Trust and Safety Partnership and the Global Network Initiative for our first in-person European Rights & Risks Stakeholder Engagement Forum! It was a special pleasure to organize this together with our friends at GNI and much appreciation to everyone from the organizing team for all of the very hard work over the past few months. This was a pioneering multistakeholder exploration of systemic risk assessments and fundamental rights in the context of the Digital Services Act. I learned an enormous amount and hope our other participants did as well. Much more to come on this soon!

Memories of fighting spam in 2004 are flooding back... #oecdantispamtaskforce (and now more of the same with scams - the challenge is still on)
Since the early days of fighting spam, online trust & safety has been a careful combination of people, process & tech. Executive Director David Sullivan joined Lawfare's Daily Podcast to discuss the opportunities and challenges of AI for content moderation, particularly as international lawmakers seek policies to safeguard internet users worldwide. https://lnkd.in/e9NHKUCT

It was a pleasure to join Charlotte Willner, Kevin Frazier, and Quinta Jurecic for a wide-ranging discussion on the future of #AI and #contentmoderation. Among the many topics we touched upon in a swift but sweeping conversation: 🌏 Persistent challenges with labor rights in globalized supply chains and the letter to US President Biden from Kenyan content moderators and AI workers (https://lnkd.in/gPvDvpHE) 🤖 How AI can enhance quality work and wellbeing for #trustandsafety professionals and perhaps reduce their exposure to truly egregious content (stay tuned for a new report from the Digital Trust and Safety Partnership on this topic coming soon) 🗣 The role of LLMs in moderating content in other languages from the majority world (with a shoutout to Aliya Bhatia and the work of the Center for Democracy & Technology on this topic) 🔃 Reasons for outsourcing roles in content review and AI data enrichment 🤝 The importance of cross industry collaborations to address issues like the new Tech Against Scams Coalition led by Match Group, Meta and others (https://lnkd.in/gBdhGH8b) 🇪🇺 The impact of the #DigitalServicesAct, why content regs have not focused on the role of content moderators, but why the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive may have an impact #CSDDD ⚖ How a fix to the the 4A third-party doctrine could reduce the amount of known CSAM that humans must look at to enable law enforcement investigations Give it a listen and please share your reactions!
On today's Lawfare Daily, Kevin Frazier and Quinta Jurecic spoke to Charlotte Willner and David Sullivan about content moderation in the age of AI, the ongoing trade-offs involved in content moderation, the evolution of content moderation, and more. https://lnkd.in/e9NHKUCT
