Secondary research is the process of gathering and analyzing existing data that has already been collected by a third party. Coming from a variety of sources, secondary research can be gathered from academic journals, government publications, market research reports, industry studies, and online databases. Using secondary research adds context to primary research, creates insights based on previous research, and ensures an unbiased interpretation of the data. When you head into secondary research with a plan, that simplifies the entire process--take a look at some of our tips below: 1. Identify Goals: What do you want to learn from the secondary research? How will it be helpful to your project? Do you have a list of resources you plan to collect from? Asking yourself these questions will help you narrow down the type of research you gather. 2. Find and Collect Existing Data: Gather a list of reliable sources you wish to collect data from. Depending on the topic, this may be easy or a little more difficult! Ensure whatever sources you do end up using are vetted and provide authentic information. 3. Combine the Datasets: After you've gathered your desired information, you'll combine all the datasets in a way that makes sense to you. Consider what the data shows, if it makes sense, and so on. First impressions are important no matter what--banks are no exception.👀💸 After opening a new bank account, consumers will remember if the process was simple or difficult. This will set the tone for the entire relationship between the bank and the customer, which is why it's important to ensure the process is as smooth as can be! A way to measure this experience is to conduct new account opening surveys. These surveys are useful for both personal and commercial customers (B2C and B2B). Common topics included in these surveys include: 1. Opening new checking/savings accounts 2. Applying for home equity loans 3. Refinancing mortgages 4. Applying for business loans New account openings are key touchpoints throughout the customer journey at a financial institution. It's important to measure, track, and trend these experiences so that a bank or credit union can understand what needs to be improved for future dealings with new customers. In order to receive the best results, these surveys must measure specific KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). They include... 😄CSAT (customer satisfaction): This metric measures the satisfaction levels of customers on a scale, either from 1 to 5 or from 1 to 10. 🌟NPS (net promoter score): NPS measures how likely a customer is to recommend the services of the bank to a friend, rated on a scale from 1 to 10. 👍CES (customer effort score): CES refers to how much effort was put into the account opening process. This metric can be easily assessed with a question like, "How easy was it to open your account with us?" rated on a scale from "Very Easy" to "Very Difficult." The data gathered from these types of questions is invaluable for banks wanting to improve their customer experience. For more information on how these surveys and how they're designed, take a look at this recent post by George Kuhn: https://lnkd.in/ehAatXvu
