DreamSickle Kids Foundation is looking for 3-4 new board members to help guide our impactful initiatives as Nevada’s first SCD-focused nonprofit. 🎯 What We're Looking For: We seek dedicated professionals, community leaders, and experts in fields such as Hematology/Oncology, Pediatric Medicine, Rare Disease Research, Patient Advocacy, Caregiving, Nonprofit Finance, Legislative Advocacy, Educational Program Development, Mental Health, and Youth & Community Outreach. 💼 Board Member Commitment: * Attend four meetings annually and occasional interim meetings * Dedicate 1-2 hours monthly to nonprofit activities * Participate in at least one community event per year * Engage in fundraising efforts 🙌 Why Join Us? The State of Nevada's DHHS, DHCFP, DUR is holding a pivotal meeting that could shape the future of sickle cell disease treatment in our state. We urge all professionals, patients, caregivers, and advocates to get involved! 🗓️ Important Meeting Announcement: Your expertise and experiences are needed as we discuss Medicaid's potential coverage of the latest gene therapies for sickle cell disease, Casgevy and Lyfgenia, approved in 2023. Why It's Crucial: Following the 2019 sickle cell bill, this meeting represents a significant step towards ensuring that Nevada's sickle cell patients have access to potentially life-changing treatments. Most sickle cell patients are Medicaid recipients, making these discussions about coverage critically important. Engagement Opportunities: Participate in person or virtually to contribute to the discussion on prior authorization criteria for the new treatments. Public input is invaluable for the proposed adoption of these criteria and for understanding patient needs and outcomes.
