“One of your employees touched my heart in a huge way. My card declined for a balance of $6. Instead of making me leave the items I needed, she paid the $6 for me. She said it’s Mother’s Day and she was happy to pay for me. That is so incredibly kind and generous and speaks volumes of her character. This world needs more people like her.” – Palatka, FL customer Thank you, Mary J., for exhibiting DG’s mission of #ServingOthers!

When it comes to investing in the professional goals of our employees, Senior Financial Analyst of Transportation Joseph C.’s DG career journey is a true testament to this.   Joseph began #ServingOthers in 2020 as an assistant store manager in Kannapolis, North Carolina. After sharing his career goals with his DG leadership, Joseph began as a licensing specialist at the Company’s Store Support Center in Goodlettsville, Tennessee in 2021 and since then, has held increasing roles of responsibility to now supporting DG’s supply chain financial operations and strategies.   “From working at my local store in North Carolina to today serving the Company’s Store Support Center in Tennessee, I’ve learned that at Dollar General, Serving Others is more than a mission – it’s a way of life that drives all of us each day, in every role and part of the business,” shared Joseph. “Our store teams are fundamental pieces to the communities they serve, and it’s been fulfilling to see how our business revolves around supporting our associates, and ultimately serving our communities. I am grateful for my leaders and mentors at Dollar General who have empowered my goals and supported my career growth.”   Want to grow with us too? Visit careers.dollargeneral.com.

Juneteenth celebrations remind us of the importance of freedom, equality and justice for all and also serve as an opportunity to reflect on our collective progress, while acknowledging the continual fight for civil freedoms. As we commemorate Juneteenth, we encourage you to learn more about its profound impact on American history. At Dollar General, our African American Employee Resource Group led several Juneteenth celebrations, all of which highlight the power of unity in diversity.

There is always a greeting and a smile when you walk through the door. It is hard to find a person like Penny, especially nowadays. She is a positive person and deserves to be recognized for all the good she does and gives.” – Cedarville, NJ customer Thank you, Penny for exhibiting DG’s mission of #ServingOthers!

When Melissa "Rowan" G. was just 17 years old she joined the #Army, turning 18 while serving in Korea. A Patriot missile operator for four years and the only female M60 gunner in her battalion, she credits the military with teaching her how to approach challenges. "At just 4'11" and having been raised by my brothers, I consider myself to be spirited and rugged. My battalion would throw everything my way with a chuckle of 'let's see what the little one can do.' If I couldn't do it, I kept trying until I did." Rowan was recently promoted to District Manager after joining DG 15 years ago as an assistant store manager. "That never give up mentality is imperative. Anytime there's a problem, I run towards it. The military taught me to be resilient and adaptable, and I'm able to use that in my role at DG - taking things one step at a time and figuring out each situation as it comes." As we recognize today's #ArmyBirthday, we thank Rowan and the many other DG employees, customers and community members who have served.
