Growing a better spice trade.
About us
Diaspora Co. is a queer, woman of color owned business dedicated to putting money, equity and power into the hands of small, organic spice farmers across South Asia who are leading the way in sustainable, regenerative agriculture, and truly delicious spices. Our mission is to get freshly harvested, heirloom spices that were grown for their flavor and aroma into your hands as quickly and ethically as possible. As of 2021, we work with roughly 150 farm partners and over 1000 farm partners across 10 states in India & Sri Lanka. Growing a better spice trade - from small Indian farms to your kitchen. We put flavor first - for hundreds of years the spice trade has prioritized high volume and profits at the expense of taste. We work with heirloom seed varieties, and in constant collaboration with our partner farms to curate only the most delicious spices grown for flavor first. Equality is at the heart of our work - we pay our partner farms an average of 6x the market price for their produce. We recognize that the commodity food system is broken, and that as leaders in sustainability and regenerative ag, our partner farmers deserve a rich premium, as well as harvest advances, and full healthcare for all their laborers. We take our time - we spend anywhere from 6 months - 2 years sourcing a new spice - making several farm visits and always in search of true excellence. If we don’t find a good enough spice, we don’t launch it. Simple. Culture matters - South Asian flavors, stories and foodways are heroically underrepresented in the grocery and kitchen landscape. We’re giving context, nuance and color to the cuisines of our homelands and diaspora. We believe that a business rooted in cultural work and true community is one that’ll last.

Diaspora Co. reposted this
WELCOME to the hot pink, brave, beautiful new Diaspora Co. spice world! Peep it all at www.diasporaco.com Six years into our journey, we've made some HUGE shifts this week to better support our big ambitions, our sustainable growth plans and our incredible farm partners 😻 1. We re-branded from our iconic glass jars to these cutie lil tins! You can learn all about why here (hint: better COGs, better shelf visibility, more accessible pricing, huge shipping savings) - https://lnkd.in/e_BRqbsx 2. We moved our entire production processing to Mumbai! This allows us to work closer and more thoughtfully with our farm partners, create good jobs back home, and scale our production WAY up! 3. After years of working (unhappily) with various 3PLs across the USA, we've opened our own fulfilment warehouse in Portland, Oregon! It's a big step in serving our customers with the attention to detail and speed that they deserve, and making sure that our Diaspora values extend to every end of our supply chain. I am SO thankful to my team on both continents for their grit, their focus, and leadership these past few months as we've taken on way more than we knew how to handle and CRUSHED IT. And to our incredible board for pushing us in all the right directions, even when it hurts! cc: Will Rosenzweig Franco Fubini ellen bennett 💗 TL;DR - we glowed up our packaging, dropped our prices, brought our production and fulfilment in-house, with a rock solid team, IN THIS ECONOMY. I'm so proud and giddy for everything to come! 💅🏽🌶️
