Engaging kids without screens can be tough, especially during these long, hot summer days! Try these strategies to keep kids curious, active, and offline. 🌞 💜 1. Rotate books in and out of your bookshelves, and point book covers outward so kids can see the fresh offerings. Set up a “book shop” at home with the books you already have! 📚 2. Set up a writer's corner and introduce new materials regularly - include everything from crayons to stickers to cool erasers. Collaborate with your child or let them write solo as they pen the next great tale! 📖✍️ 3. Make your own show together inspired by a show you already love! Brainstorm and act out your own episode of a favorite show. Use characters your child loves and imagine new adventures for them right in your own home. Try writing a few lines of dialogue or pulling out some costumes before performing it for other family members (don’t forget the snacks!) 🍿 #SummerReading #Literacy #HometoSchoolBridge

Literacy is a shining beacon for all of us and our students! A huge thank you to @raehughart and the Teach Better team @teachbetterteam for inviting me on the Teach Better Talk podcast! It's always a joy to connect with other educators and to discuss what we are all working towards to create great outcomes for readers, writers, and learners of all ages. Check out the episode below to hear about my journey as a literacy advocate, how I connected my love of education and entrepreneurship ("edupreneurship" as Rae would say) to create Dewey, and the importance of having a strong and loving network of collaborators, supporters, and colleagues. (Also having strong grandmothers is a big help too, listen in to hear more on that!) #literacy #education #edupreneurship #entrepreneurship #superreaders #dewey #womensupportingwomen https://lnkd.in/e6-Zf9sh
