Unfortunately, this never ends! I feel like I've been talking about this for 50 years, but it's probably only been for the past 15 or 20. The recent cyber breach that hit CDK Global, and has forced car dealerships to go back to “long hand accounting” to operate, highlights the critical dependence businesses have on a small number of critical vendors in various sectors of our economy. In my experience, industries like healthcare, aviation, banking, rely heavily on a small number of software providers to carry out important business functions such as managing patient health care data, booking flights, enabling sales operations, processing payments, and supporting day-to-day operations. For many years, I have emphasized the importance of “looking way out in front of the car you're driving” when it comes to running a business. Just as leadership teams invest in strategic planning to understand customer trends and market demands, they must also anticipate challenges and foresee potential risk to implement measures that can mitigate such uncertainty. Just because you've never been breached, or one of your third-party vendors have never been breached, doesn't mean it's not going to happen. Planning and foresight on how to continue to operate in this complex world of evolving cyber-attacks is a must. These waves of attacks, in my opinion, will continue to escalate, especially with the introduction of AI. Unfortunately, it's here to stay and I sound like a broken record. https://lnkd.in/ghJSk-GQ #cyberdefenselabs #risk #cyber #CDK
