  • Congratulations to Sierra Leone for passing such a progressive law!

GOOD NEWS ALERT: Sierra Leone has passed a historic bill criminalising child marriage‼️ Sierra Leone currently has one of the highest child marriage, early pregnancy and maternal mortality rates in the world, with about one-third of girls married before the age of 18. The new bill will provide the around 4 million children across #SierraLeone with a much safer future. This is an especially extraordinary achievement for the children who have campaigned for their rights. We are proud to have supported them in making history and creating a safer country for all children❤️ #childmarriage #VAW #EndViolence

  • Dear CSOs, The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children has written this in relation to the preparation of the Special Representative’s annual report to the General Assembly. As this year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Office of the Special Representative, her annual report to the General Assembly will take stock of progress achieved since that time and the challenges that remain. The report will in particular consider the follow-up to the United Nations study on violence against children (A/61/299) and efforts to tackle violence and its drivers in the context of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The report will also highlight promising practices and evidence regarding effective and cost-effective interventions to prevent violence against children. To inform the preparation of the annual report, the Office of the Special Representative invites civil society partners and children to submit information. For Civil Society partners, please refer to the following questions: ·      Ending all forms of violence against children is an integral part of the international commitments made under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Many actions are already being taken to prevent and respond to achieve this. What are the three most significant barriers to scaling up solutions to address violence against children comprehensively? (max. 200 words) ·      What are the three most important strategic actions that should be taken by Member States, the United Nations and by civil society actors to overcome these barriers? (max. 200 words) ·      Are there multistakeholder initiatives that been successful in measurably reducing violence against children at national level that you feel should be emulated more widely? Please share information on up to three such initiatives. (max. 200 words) Please share any relevant information by completing the form accessible through the following link: https://lnkd.in/d9skn6rr In addition, the Office of the Special Representative would also like to collect children's views and opinions on their recommendations for the world leaders.
