Girishankar brings to CSIS decades of experience in government, business, and international finance, serving most recently as senior counselor to the Deputy Secretary of Commerce on a range of domestic and international issues. He previously served in senior commercial roles at Bridgewater Associates and spent over two decades at the World Bank in senior policy, country, finance, and evaluation positions. The Economic Security and Technology Department will bring together nearly a dozen CSIS programs to offer in-depth research on economic and technology policies crucial to U.S. national security. Core focus areas will include: · AI and semiconductors · Energy security and climate transition · Critical minerals · Digital, quantum, and cybersecurity technologies · Trade and investment policies · Intellectual property and innovation ecosystems · Economic relations with China and economic alliances with global partner The department will convene political, business, and thought leaders to tackle the complex economic security and technology issues facing the U.S. and its allies. The department’s creation is part of a broader strategic realignment of CSIS programming, to be formally launched this fall, to better prepare the institution to meet global challenges in the coming decades. Navin shared his vision: “I’m honored to lead CSIS’s work on economic security and technology at a critical moment. The United States and its allies are in the midst of a must-win global technology and commercial competition. It is imperative that we take a hard look at our technology capabilities and vulnerabilities relative to others, including China; modernize our economic and technology policy toolkit; and rethink our approach to public-private collaboration at home and economic alliances around the world.” For more details and to read Navin Girishankar’s full bio, visit our website: https://cs.is/4cP2v1p
