Reflecting on #CSTA2024 : The highlights were Conor Preston’s (Executive of Meow Wolf) Keynote on creative technology using art & music ; Representing the Policy Committee with Sofia De Jesus, M.S. at the Chapter Leaders Summit to help teachers advocate for Identity Inclusive Computing; Representing CSforALL at our NSF-PI Structured Poster Sessions; and connecting with the INCREDIBLE #CSEd community (a few of my favorites featured in the pictures below)! Until next year!

♿ During #DisabilityPride Month and beyond, we appreciate inclusive leaders who work to understand the landscape of disability in schools, like Maya Israel, Director at the Creative Technology Research Lab (CTRL) — a CSforALL member — and Associate Professor of Computer Science Education at the University of Florida, an NCWIT Higher Ed Alliance member institution. She is also the Director of CSEveryone and the Kenneth C. Griffin CS Education for All Initiative. Prior to her work in higher education, she was a special education teacher. Now, her research focuses on on strategies to support students with disabilities through universal design for learning (UDL), and she is leading several grants that bring together researchers and educational leaders to make #CSed more accessible to diverse learners. Those who are familiar with the Computer Science Teachers Association Standards for Computer Science Teachers may also recognize her name, as she was a writer on the K-12 Computer Science Education Framework and also helped with revisions. She's worked with several school districts to design systemic and classroom strategies to equitably include students with disabilities in K-12 #CS initiatives, and we are thankful for her continued leadership. Today’s high school students will face pervasive questions that require foundational knowledge of computer science for them to answer. These situations illustrate the need for early, universal CS education, which will only become more important as society continues to increasingly rely on computing technologies. "Reimagining CS Pathways" is a community-wide project co-led by the Computer Science Teachers Association and Institute for Advancing Computing Education, in partnership with #CSforALL, ACM, Association for Computing Machinery, Code.org, The College Board, and ECEP Alliance, that explores how CS learning opportunities can be reenvisioned for high school students.
