Building Foundations for the Future
About us
Our family of employees embraces the teamwork associated with Building Foundations for the Future in Calcasieu Parish. The work of all of our employee groups within the school system, in coordination with parents and other community stakeholders, helps to foster the educational skills and life experiences that make our students unique. Each employee in the school system has a critical role in the teaching process. Our classroom teachers are the cornerstone of the daily learning process. They are instructors, mentoring students along the educational path. School support personnel also play an integral part in the teaching process, whether it be para-professionals aiding each day’s progress, bus drivers ushering students to school, school lunch technicians providing healthy meals in a clean environment, or custodians presenting a safe, clean learning environment. Administrators tie the teaching process together through daily interaction and by building the bridge between our schools and communities. Each group of CPSB employees understands the importance of the words “Building Foundations for the Future.” And it is this investment in public education that continues to make Calcasieu Parish a stable, prosperous community.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board is excited to announce the appointment of Jason VanMetre, Ed.D. as the new Superintendent of Schools. Dr. VanMetre enters the position with a wealth of educational experience as well as district level leadership experience, as he currently serves as the district’s Chief Academic Officer. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as the new Superintendent of the Calcasieu Parish School Board,” said Dr. VanMetre. “This district is home to phenomenal students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders, and I am honored to begin leading such a dedicated team.” With over 20 years of experience within CPSB, Dr. VanMetre exhibits a deep commitment to navigating coming changes, elevating academics, cultivating employee relationships, and communicating effectively. “I truly believe that it is all about people, all the time, and I’m excited to be in our schools in this new role to engage, assist, and listen to members of our CPSB family,” said Dr. VanMetre. “We will work together to continue fostering learning environments where everyone feels safe, supported, and successful. Even with changes coming our way with a new accountability system, new evaluation system, and potential funding adjustments, I am confident that we will continue to successfully build foundations for the future.” In addition to serving as Chief Academic Officer, Dr. VanMetre’s career with CPSB includes spending time as the Director of Management Information Systems, Principal at Westlake High School, Assistant Principal at Sulphur High School, and a teacher at Barbe High School. He holds a degree in biology education and a master’s in educational administration from McNeese State University as well as a doctorate in educational leadership from Lamar University. Dr. VanMetre’s transition from Chief Academic Officer to Superintendent will begin following the finalization of his contract on Thursday, July 11.

Our employees are the very best. This is evident in the work they do every day and in their willingness to help and support others in the community. Collectively members of our CPSB family donated over $73,000 to the United Way of SWLA during this year's campaign. We were once again on the top ten list in overall organization donations. These donations help many families in various ways, and we're grateful for our CPSB family members' willingness to meet needs in and out of the classrooms.
