Doug Guthrie, board member of CLPHA and president & CEO of the HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES, recently announced his retirement and departure from the agency, effective August 1, 2024. Three of CLPHA’s members—Houston Housing Authority, Miami-Dade Public Housing & Community Development Department, and Syracuse Housing Authority—were awarded HUD Choice Neighborhoods Implementation (CNI) Grants for the first time. Two of CLPHA’s members—Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority and Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority—each received an additional $2.5 million in funding for current CNI projects in this latest round of CNI awards. HUD has announced a total of $325 million in CNI grants to fifteen communities. Congratulations to our members on these prestigious awards! CLPHA is pleased to announce that Anthony Goodson, Jr., executive director of the Housing Authority of the City of Goldsboro, NC, and Louise Seeba, executive director of the St. Paul Public Housing Agency, were elected to CLPHA's board of directors at the board's June 2024 meeting. “I am honored to welcome Anthony Goodson, Jr. and Louise Seeba to the CLPHA board,” said Jeffery K. Patterson, president of CLPHA’s board and CEO of the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority. “Both of these seasoned housing professionals possess deep expertise and critical local perspectives that will help inform our goals and priorities. They are champions for low-income households in Goldsboro and St. Paul, implementing innovative solutions to the local housing challenges they face. He has been in Goldsboro, NC for eleven years as the CEO of the Housing Authority of the City of Goldsboro. While in Goldsboro, Anthony has led the housing authority to a high-performing status. He has redeveloped multiple communities and brought life-changing programs to residents. Louise Seeba was appointed Executive Director of the St. Paul Public Housing Agency (PHA) in April 2024. She previously served as the PHA’s General Counsel and Deputy Director for a combined 12 years. Louise is just the third Executive Director in the PHA’s 47-year history, and the first woman to hold the position. CLPHA welcomes Anthony and Louise to our board!

We are hiring a Policy & Program Analyst! A role within CLPHA’s Housing Is Initiative, the Policy & Program Analyst will work under the leadership of the Director of Cross-Sector Initiatives and focus on furthering the goals of the Housing Is Initiative generally to create and strengthen partnerships between housers and other sectors, disseminate best practices, contribute to major Housing Is efforts such as a strategic policy agenda, the annual Housing Is Summit and business development and grant management activities. This position will have a particular focus on housing and health partnerships.  The position of Policy & Program Analyst at CLPHA is a versatile one, involving a variety of tasks, often at the same time; We are looking for someone who is well-versed in and passionate about health policy and social determinants of health and can also build up subject matter knowledge quickly, in addition to being able to interact frequently with many different stakeholders and inform our larger policy agenda. 📣 I got to #moderate a fun panel during the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities summer conference, hosted by Home Forward in #Portland. We’ve dramatically expanded our Permanent Supportive Housing (#PSH) efforts serving chronically homeless households with a disabling condition. Over 5 years, we’ve nearly tripled our PSH supports, and we’ll house over 2,200 households this year. 🔊We heard from Home Forward #leadership on PSH implementation, services, development, operations, and overall mission focus: - Ian Slingerland, Director of Supportive Housing and Homeless Initiatives - Biljana Jesic, Director of Community Services - Amanda Saul, Assistant Director of Development - Michael Bunn, Property Manager This is what #solvinghomelessness looks like. CLPHA was honored to meet with HUD's Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman earlier this month alongside our colleagues from the Moving to Work Collaborative, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) & PHADA_USA. In our productive conversation we discussed several issues challenging PHAs. We thank the Acting Secretary for her continued partnership!

Last week, HACP staff was honored to present at the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities #HousingIs2024 Conference on the incredible work our W.O.W. CyberBus (The CyberBus Project) is doing to help bridge the #digitaldivide. In partnership with the Bus Stops Here Foundation and STEM Coding Lab, HACP communities are learning the skills they need to secure a job in today's world. The Bus Stops Here founder, NFL Hall of Famer @JeromeBettis36, recorded the following message to stress the importance of bringing this instruction to our residents and the surrounding communities. He notes that when the pandemic hit, we learned one in 5 homes in Allegheny County did not have access to the internet. Watch The Bus' message and learn what percentage of middle income jobs now require digital skills, how we are working to create positive change for everyone, and how you can support this mission.

I’m filled with gratitude to have the amazing opportunity to represent Southern California College Attainment Network (SoCal CAN)’s Project SOAR program and co-present at the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities Housing Is Summit last Friday. Not only was it my first CLPHA conference, but it was my first time presenting at a conference!🤩🙌🏽 I feel honored to present with my supervisor and mentor Lina Calderón-Morin, Adam Bush from College Unbound, Crystal Palmer from Chicago Housing Authority, and Salin Geevarghese on the impact of providing post secondary and career support and options to public housing residents. 📚🏠🫶🏽
