About us
Cottonwood Institute (CI) is an educational non-profit organization based in Denver, Colorado. What We Do: CI's mission is to connect underserved students to the outdoors and empower them to take action to improve their schools, the community, and the environment for future generations. How We Do It: CI collaborates with schools and youth organizations—primarily for middle and high school students—to provide high quality, high impact environmental education and service-learning programs. Why We Are Different: CI programs empower students to ignite change, not just talk about it. CI's change theory is: Gift + Issue = Change. Every student has a gift and when they apply it to an issue they are passionate about, they will change themselves. That change will ripple out to their friends and family, their schools and communities, the environment, and the world. A few of our Changemakers were recently interviewed by Generation Collaboration to chat more about environmental leadership with Cottonwood Institute. They covered topics of what is Cottonwood Institute, creating change, making a difference, and the positive experiences of nature. One part we loved was our Changemaker & amazing assistant instructor Jesse, shared "social media has instant gratification, but it's nothing more than that. With the outdoors it's a level of fulfillment that I found trying to find more out about it, help it, and grow with it. " Check it out and share! https://lnkd.in/gbDe9y8Y

Happy 14er Friday! Have you checked out our online store? This beautiful Fourteeners Portraits watercolor collection was generously donated by local Denver artist Mike Wilson. https://lnkd.in/gjYC6zFx Humboldt Peak: 14,064'. On the tribal lands of the Ute, Cheyenne, and Arapaho. The perspective in this painting is only available in Google Maps or on an expensive helicopter ride. In Colorado’s Highest, Jeri L. Norgren tells us the peak was named after the German scientist, geographer, explorer, mountaineer, and naturalist Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt. Long title. Long name. Tall peak. It’s the tallest in the Sangre de Cristo Range.

Had a great time last week with the Sims-Fayola Foundation! The different groups went to Staunton State Park, learned how to fish and enjoyed the serenity of Davis Ponds and their friends! Aren't familiar with Sims Fayola? Their youth programming is designed to empower young men of color by addressing educational inequities and dismantling institutional barriers. We had SO much fun at the Throwdown this past weekend at McGregor Square! Thank you all to making it a huge success and shout out to the Corn Nuggets for taking 1st place! We were a bit short of our fundraising goal, so if you weren't able to attend, if you were a guest of a sponsor, if you didn't win an auction item, or if you just love what we do and have capacity to make a tax deductible donation, please donate today: https://lnkd.in/geYmSZtY
