On July 3, 2024, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas put a temporary hold on the Federal Trade Commission’s Non-Compete Rule, which would ban most non-compete agreements, delaying the Rule’s September 4, 2024, effective date and application as to the plaintiffs and intervenors in that litigation. The Court intends to rule on the ultimate merits of the action on or before August 30, 2024. Amy Wilbourn and Emily Mizell recently co-authored a chapter of the Practical Law Health Care Guide related to the health care fraud and abuse laws in the state of Arkansas. The Q&A guide is published by Thomson Reuters Westlaw and contains valuable information regarding civil and criminal actions related to health care fraud and abuse in Arkansas and the potential consequences for violating the law. The publication also details the integrity provisions for administering Medicaid in Arkansas.

Happy International LGBTQ+ Pride Day! Today we commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, an act of resistance against the discrimination and persecution of the LGBTQ+ community. During pride month, we celebrate the power that lives in each one of us and the strength that comes from living your true, authentic self. Pride month represents community, diversity, freedom, compassion, equality, and acceptance - which are all branches of the most important thing on earth: LOVE. #HappyPride to all, and may love unite us and bring us closer together as a community and nation!

Our 2024 class of summer associates are wrapping up their experience with Conner & Winters today, and we're reflecting on all of the exciting things that have happened over the last six weeks. Our attorneys really enjoyed working alongside these talented students and getting to know them on a personal level through mixers and events. From TopGolf to social hours to softball games to a good 'ol country shindig at historic Cain's Ballroom, it has been an absolute blast having them join us this summer and we wish them so much success in law school and in their future legal careers!

Elise Brennan and Russell Ramzel are co-authors of the newly-released third edition of "Corporate Practice of Medicine: A 50 State Survey" published by the American Health Law Association. The guide provides information about the laws in each state that affect the corporate practice of medicine, and is a useful reference for hospitals, health systems, physicians, and health care professionals. Elise and Russell co-authored the section of the book related to the state of Oklahoma.

Last week, the Fayetteville office hosted students from the University of Arkansas School of Law, Fayetteville Summer Pre-Law Program (SPPARK). The three-week immersion program involves talented junior and senior college students who are interested in law school and the broader legal profession. During the program, the students live on campus, engage in classes taught by law school faculty, complete reading and writing assignments, take fields trips to various local law firms and legal employers, and prepare for the LSAT. We were thrilled to host and encourage these aspiring legal professionals!

Today we celebrate the Juneteenth holiday, recognizing the day that enslaved peoples were freed. We will always fight to break the chains that bind us and restrict us from rising up and building a better nation and world. May we all recommit ourselves to the pursuit of equality, justice, liberation, and freedom for all – because in the infamous words of Maya Angelou, "No one of us can be free until everybody is free"
