  • Now is your chance to witness the process of art conservation at Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington! 🖼️ Hill-Stead was selected as one of 24 museums worldwide to be part of the 2024 Bank of America Conservation Project. Some of the other museums selected include the Guggenheim in New York, the Louvre in Paris, and the National Gallery in London. Thanks to the Bank of America grant, Hill-Stead is able to bring two world-class conservators to work on the restoration of three of our Impressionist masterpieces - Degas’s Dancers in Pink (c. 1876), Manet’s Toreadors (1862-63), and Monet’s Fishing Boats at Sea (1868). These pieces have accumulated over a century's worth of dirt and discoloration, obscuring their true brilliance. 🩰✨ The program is taking place in Hill-Stead's Glass Room to serve as a "fishbowl" allowing spectators to observe and see the conservators at work. 🔍 The program will last from July 10 to 12 and then from July 15 until the program is completed around July 31. "We are thrilled to bring this unprecedented event to Hill-Stead," said the museum's Executive Director and CEO Dr. Anna Swinbourne. "It's a rare chance for the public to see the intricate work that goes into preserving our cultural heritage." 💬 The project culminates with a panel discussion on Wednesday, July 24, where world-renowned art conservators David Bull and Teresa Longyear will share their insights and field questions about their findings. Construction is underway and we are making great progress towards a dramatically improved site, which will feature accessible walkways, native plantings and an amphitheater for The Aldrich’s presentation of dance, music, and school and community programs." This ambitious renovation will be a stunning addition to The Aldrich, creating a space under the open sky that fosters deeper connections with art and community. Generous support from the Museum’s community is necessary to bring this ambitious renovation—which will dramatically transform The Aldrich—to life. Learn more about the project and help The Aldrich make this project a reality by supporting the capital campaign today at https://lnkd.in/evC83krQ 🌼 The renovated Sculpture Garden will be reopening this November and inaugurated by the 21 artist group exhibition "A Garden of Promise and Dissent."
