What an unforgettable celebration we had for Somali Independence Day on Saturday, June 29, on Litchfield Ave, downtown Willmar, MN! The event was a vibrant showcase of Somali culture, featuring traditional food, music, and dance. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible community and the diverse cultures that joined us in this celebration. Your enthusiasm and participation made the day truly special, highlighting the beauty of cultural unity and mutual appreciation. We are proud to share with you all that another powerful gathering (YouthWell Collective) was held by and at the office of Community Connectors Services of Willmar in early May at downtown Willmar Minnesota. The purpose of this meeting was how we as a community can help our youth become better aware of the pressing issues at and to let them know we are here to listen and to help. Professionals from Woodland Centers - Minnesota John S. Kim Madsen were present and reassured the community that suffering doesn't go unnoticed and that they are available to help as well. Long time Willmar residents Abdullahi Awale and Kaafi Adeys who are in the process of founding a local Islamic based non-profit treatment center that tackle our two issues of mental health and addressing SUD were present and facilitated/interpreted at the meeting. Food and drinks were provided by Faafan restaurant located in the heart of Willmar. It takes all of us working together to strengthen our communities!
