ICYMI: State Center Community College District Chancellor Carole Goldsmith and Asm. Esmeralda Soria, Esq. outlined the reasons that California Community Colleges need to be able to offer a bachelor of science in #nursing degree. Top of the list: affordability and access. "Allowing community colleges to offer these degrees serves an important societal need: Not only will it expand educational opportunities for a broader range of potential applicants, particularly in rural communities, it will also enable our healthcare system to better serve disadvantaged communities and enhance diversity in the nursing profession." https://lnkd.in/g_DuBEeb

One step closer to a pilot pathways to BSN degrees at California Community Colleges! SB 895 moved out of the Assembly Higher Education Committee with a 9-1 vote today! Sen. Richard Roth (D-Riverside) has been a tireless champion for making sure that affordable and accessible nursing education is available to the California students who want to earn their bachelor of science in nursing. As co-sponsors of the legislation, the League is grateful for Sen. Roth's work and the dedication from our colleges, districts, and partners! And we love that giant smile on Nune Garipian's face during yesterday's advocacy visits! Thanks to our nursing deans from across the state!

The Capital Cities Community College Consortium (C5) is hosting a zoom forum for a community college audience on Monday, June 17, from 12-1 p.m. PST. Coming as a resource to League members from our federal legislative partner Tom Downs, this forum will focus on semiconductor industry workforce training. Featured presenters will be from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s CHIPS Program Office. To receive the link for the webinar, please email Tom Downs at tcdowns@downsgovaffairs.com. About CHIPS President Biden signed the Chips and Science Act into law on August 9, 2022. Chips and Science has placed America on a path toward renewed leadership in semiconductor manufacturing. The Department of Commerce has authority under the Act to direct $50 billion to programs strengthening and revitalizing the U.S. position in semiconductor research, development, and manufacturing through Commerce’s CHIPS Research and Development Office and the CHIPS Program Office. This includes $13 billion for semiconductor research and workforce training. These efforts are likely to advance development of robust semiconductor technology programs at community colleges across the country to secure the talent pipeline for technician-level jobs in semiconductor manufacturing.
