Not all heroes wear capes—sometimes, they wear tennis shoes! Academy Sports + Outdoors teamed up with Brooks Running and CIS-SA to surprise 31 East Central High School coaches with a new pair of Brooks Hero Collection shoes for their positive impact on their students and the EAST CENTRAL ISD community. Brooks' new Hero Collection of Shoes recognizes the heroic spirit of teachers and coaches and the positive impact running can have on mental health and wellness.

Mental health professionals from our clinical team attended a full week of training at the UNT’s Center for Play Therapy’s Summer Institute with leading experts in child therapy. They were able to expand on their expertise to support elementary-level students and beyond as they provide counseling services at ECISD through Project AWARE. They cannot wait to take everything they have learned and provide support to students when they return from summer break!

"She's still here... even on her hardest days." Our students often face challenges outside school that affect their ability to focus in school. Despite dealing with unstable housing and an unsafe environment, Elektra is on track to graduate. At Communities In Schools of San Antonio, we create a safe space on campus that encourages students to keep showing up. We are honored to be part of Elektra's story and we're so proud to watch her cross the graduation stage in the coming weeks. We have some INK-credible AmeriCorps members! Elizabeth, our AmeriCorps member at Edison High School, partnered with the CIS-SA AmeriCorps member at Twain Academy to start a pen pal group! Over the last couple of months, each student has been able to build a connection with one another, serve as a mentor to a younger student, and improve their academic writing skills.

The Hudson Group is ensuring that our students reach new heights! With their recent customer donations through point-of-sale transactions at local airports and stores, they raised over $24,000 for San Antonio and students in the surrounding area who are in need. Big hearts and warm soles at Cable Elementary! CIS-SA Site Coordinators Amanda and Val teamed up with school counselors to bring a wave of joy to the Cable Elementary School students. Thanks to the generous donation from the ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF SAN ANTONIO, over 400 pairs of shoes were distributed campus-wide. At Cable, where basic needs are a top priority, the day was marked with beaming smiles and a spring in every step as the kids enjoyed their brand-new shoes. “It's more than just footwear; it's a step towards nurturing hope and support in our community,” said Val.

Cable Elementary School's students were treated to a fun day of learning about different career options that require wheels! Some vendors included CPS Energy, NISD (bucket truck), postal service, SWAT team, Delta Airlines, Kens5, Kona Ice and more. The students were excited, engaged, and asked great questions about these unique careers!! Thank you for expanding possibilities for our students.
