Emergency Management Directors from across central and western Massachusetts attended MEMA West’s Quarterly EMD meeting in Agawam this week. These quarterly meetings provide a variety of educational resources to EMDs. The program included a special dedication of MEMA West’s Operations Room in honor of former Local Coordinator Bob Barry, who passed away in March. Bob served with MEMA for more than 17 years and was not only an integral part of the agency but also a trusted friend and a beloved colleague. Other Highlights from the meeting included: - A presentation from MEMA Public Information Officer Justin Shrair on preparedness and emergency messaging during the Atlantic Hurricane Season. - A ceremony to recognize 15 individuals who successfully completed MEMA's Massachusetts Professional Emergency Manager Program (MPEM). Some were celebrated for meeting Associate-Level MPEM qualifications while others received recognition at the Specialist level. MPEM is open to anyone employed or appointed in Massachusetts as an emergency manager or who holds a position with emergency management as a core responsibility.
