Edition 4 of "The Surgeon's Record" by Commons Clinic, continuing our series on Pillars of Innovation in VBC MSK. This week, we present Pillar 2 -- Migration to ASCs. Orthopedic procedures in an ambulatory surgical center are not new. Hand, foot and ankle, and sports cases like arthroscopies have long been performed in ASCs. But the migration of higher acuity joint and spine procedures is a growing trend that will save the healthcare system billions of dollars. It's safe, cost effective, and a tremendous way to deliver value to patient and surgeon. This edition of "The Record" delves into the current state of MSK procedures in the ASC including my own experience as an outpatient total joint surgeon. This week's article also features short takes on AI tools being used for prior auth, Blake Madden's excellent take on HATCo/General Catalyst and Summa Health, and Oshi Health's success in specialty VBC. There's also a link to a "must listen" episode of a newer healthcare podcast 43cc Podcast. As always, comments and suggestions are welcome and encouraged. #medicine #healthcare #vbc #valuebasedcare #health #healthcareinnovation #aiinhealthcare #msk #ortho #orthopedics
