For Colorado’s safety net providers, these are challenging times. For Colorado’s Community Mental Health Centers, it’s hard to see the path forward because uncertainty in a host of areas clouds the picture. Why the apprehension? Because many of our state’s bedrock, community-based mental health and substance use disorder providers are on the verge of cutting programs and reducing services intended for Colorado’s most vulnerable populations. Uncertainty around foundational budget considerations is making it difficult for providers to make informed choices. In this chronically underfunded area of healthcare, the margin for error is nonexistent. The convergence of several factors is creating an unsustainable situation for many community mental health centers. Take a look at the current pressures safety net providers are facing and where budget clarity is needed through our CEO's latest blog: "The mental health and substance use disorder safety net is plagued by uncertainty." https://lnkd.in/gDSvdC_h

We can't love this enough! So glad to see these young advocates receive recognition at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing's #HillDay in D.C. for supporting the passage of SB24-007 which will expand access to Mental Health First Aid training in Colorado! Congrats and thank you to Girl Scout Troop 67358! #MHFA #MentalHealthFirstAid
So impressed by these Colorado Girl Scouts, who adopted CO SB 24-007 as their own. The bill expands access to Teen and Youth Mental Health First Aid. The girls were looking for a mental health bill to champion, and understood this one right away because they've taken first aid courses - the concept immediately made sense to them. They tracked the bill and wrote letters to legislators urging their support. The day it passed the Senate, sponsors Dafna Michaelson Jenet and Rhonda Fields, plus Senator Lisa Cutter, read their letters on the floor. Jared Polis signed the bill this week while the girls were in DC to accept the Advocates of the Year Award from National Council for Mental Wellbeing. This is what gives me hope for our future!

This program brings up so much to heal,” said Queen, a participant in the program. “I never thought I would sing again, and I am singing. I am also clean from drugs and alcohol. And I’m talking to my family again. I joined this program because I like horses, but I didn’t know it was going to push me to do the things that I have been missing. I didn’t know it was going to be medicine.” Have animals helped you along your mental health journey? https://lnkd.in/ggcNFYqN #EquineTherapy #HealingAndHorses
