Collegiate Direction Inc.’s Annual Spring Benefit will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Madison Hotel in DC. CDI’s 14th annual celebration will feature a conversation with Jason Wright, president of the Washington Commanders.   CDI’s mission to support the economic mobility of first-generation students from limited financial means along their journey to attain a college degree is essential to this nation’s global competitive advantage. Last academic year, we served more than 6,500 students in the DC metro area in our Scholars and School Support programs. 89% of CDI Scholars graduate from four-year colleges at a rate five times higher than the national average for their peers. Visit the link below to learn more about CDI and how your support of our annual benefit will help us raise the much-needed funds to invest in our mission and have an impact on our very deserving Scholars and school partners. We hope you will join us! #CDIscholars #FirstGen #AchievingWhatsPossible https://lnkd.in/gZze4c6U

  • Collegiate Directions, Inc. President and CEO Amma Felix recently joined the Maryland Alliance for College Affordability in Annapolis at the group’s first Legislative Day. The Alliance is a grassroots project comprised of 18 organizations working to educate lawmakers and leaders about the systemic barriers to college completion for first-generation students from low-income backgrounds.    During their presentation, Alliance chair Joe Fisher implored representatives from Ann Arundel, Baltimore, Frederick, Montgomery, and Prince George’s counties to help remove obstacles and create incentives for college-bound youth. Ms. Felix described how without educational investment from the legislature, COVID-related learning loss, the Supreme Court removing Affirmative Action from the admissions process, crippling student loan debt, and other factors could derail the college aspirations of countless young people who already face an uphill battle in their journey to obtain a college degree.    To learn more about the Alliance, visit md-alliance.org.

  • Support Opportunity and Achievement!   Collegiate Directions Inc. was founded in 2005 with a belief in the transformational impact of higher education. Every day, our staff works diligently to ensure first-generation-to-college Scholars have the opportunity to reap the rewards of their hard work and earn a college degree regardless of their family's economic circumstances.   We do this work because low-income households are filled with high hopes of parents and the aspirations of students for whom so many of life's opportunities seem just out of reach.   We work with families who have made and continue to make untold sacrifices with the hope of giving their children access to the dreams that eluded them and were left unfulfilled. At CDI, we make those hopes and dreams real by applying our proven methods to guide Scholars from 10th grade through successful college graduation and beyond.   The students in our Scholars Program graduate from 4-year colleges at a rate 5 times higher than the national average for their peers. Our School Support Program teaches our best practices for student success to high school college counselors, impacting an additional 6,500 students in Maryland and DC.   During the 6 years our Scholars are with CDI, we assist with their academic development, tend to their mental health and wellness, prepare them for standardized tests, locate their best-fit colleges, secure financial aid, and pair them with professional mentors.   In the aftermath of the pandemic, in the face of unequal opportunities and a host of barriers, challenges, and obstacles, the dreams of our Scholars and their families have not diminished. Thus, CDI has remained steadfast in our focus because these young people deserve nothing less than our best efforts.   Ours is not just important work. It is critical, life-changing work that can allow a Scholar to fulfill the unrealized aspirations of elders and become an example of the possible to younger siblings.   But we know that potential cannot turn into opportunity without support. Without support, opportunity cannot turn into success. At CDI support is infused into everything we do and is the common thread that allows us to produce remarkable results.   This work can only continue with the support of generous donors who believe in our mission and our Scholars. So, we ask that you help CDI by making a financial contribution that will allow us to help even more deserving Scholars achieve what’s possible!   Please give today at https://lnkd.in/guNqxwvX
