Cole Architects was awarded the architecture and engineering contract for the new Interpretive Center and Collections Building at Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site in John Day, Oregon. The firm is currently developing a schematic design for the new building. The heritage site includes the Kam Wah Chung building, now a museum, which is a designated National Historic Landmark. The building once housed the Kam Wah Chung and Company and offers an historical view of early Chinese settlement and contributions to the area. The new facility will interpret the historic museum, provide environmentally controlled space to protect and preserve the historic collection, and support research activities. Heidi Slaybaugh is leading the architectural and engineering design team on the Kam Wah Chung Interpretive Center project. She is a principal in the Bend, Oregon office, and meets the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualifications Standards for Historic Preservation. She is meticulous, self-driven, and passionate about integrating new buildings into historic settings. Heidi excels in building relationships, leading, and delivering projects that reflect the client’s vision and navigating rules of public project delivery methods. From its inception in 1995, Cole Architects has been defined by award-winning designs, attention to detail, a diverse portfolio, and client-centric work. They feel it is important for architects to be good stewards of society, to leave things better than they found them, and to create places that improve the built environment for generations to come. They are committed to advancing local architecture and care about the impact their work has in the communities they serve. More information about Cole Architects is available at https://lnkd.in/gN5yKceY The Kam Wah Chung project is one of nine statewide funded by general obligation bonds (GO Bond) approved by the 2021 Oregon Legislature.
