Headquartered in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, Kansas, Cohen- Esrey’s roots in Real Estate go back to 1969. We are dedicated to enhancing the communities where we work by acquiring, developing and managing multi-family properties and providing rewarding investment opportunities for communities, organizations, and individuals. Our cumulative multi-family portfolio over the past four+ decades totals more than 65,000 units in more than 525 properties. With nearly fifty years in the multifamily industry, Cohen-Esrey creates a balance in quality living environments, while generating strong risk-adjusted returns. Through Cohen-Esrey Apartment Investors, LLC, we target Class B apartments and re-innovate them to appeal to both Millennials and Baby Boomers alike. Our affordable housing development program provided through Cohen-Esrey Development Group, LLC involves new construction, acquisition and renovation of existing apartment properties, and the adaptive re-use of historic buildings. Beyond the “sticks and bricks,” we strive to create a community that not only enhances the lives of the residents but also has a positive impact on the greater community to which the property belongs.     CEDG Team Photo At the recent Cohen-Esrey annual retreat, 21 team members of Cohen-Esrey Development Group assembled in once place for the first time. We talked about innovative ways we can continue to deliver affordable and workforce housing across the country. Plus, we had a lot of laughs. This team has a variety of professional backgrounds and experience, but we come together to deliver thriving communities that change lives.

    In May, Cohen-Esrey and Brinkmann Constructors partnered with local Colorado Springs school districts to highlight career opportunities in the construction trades. This “trades day” hosted students from Harrison School District #2, Manitou Springs School District #14, and Colorado Springs School District #11 to inspire and connect them to apprenticeships and job opportunities. Major kudos to our partners at Brinkmann for leading students through modules involving a construction safety orientation, meeting individual sub-contractors, and an educational construction tour.

    Cohen-Esrey develops apartment properties in numerous locations. In addition to delivering high quality housing options for working families and low-income senior citizens, these projects have a meaningful and positive impact on local economies. The construction projects provide local jobs and economic activity. Once operational, apartment communities provide ongoing local jobs and a pool of new local residents as patrons to neighborhood businesses. In the end, these projects bring jobs, bring customers, beautify and revitalize communities, and ultimately reinvigorate local economies. With 2,664 units in development, our properties are generating nearly $59 million in local taxes and fees and over $215 million in local wages and salaries. This is based on per unit economic impact according to the National Association of Home Builders.

    Cohen-Esrey has assumed management of five properties totaling 324-units in New Orleans and Morgan City, LA. The most prominent is the 147-unit Falstaff Apartments, a New Orleans landmark that has been converted into affordable housing from the former Falstaff Brewery.

    Construction of the Loma Vista Lofts in San Antonio, TX, is headed down the home stretch. Exterior painting is in progress and unit interiors are being finished. This 212-unit affordable community, a $41 million project of the Cohen-Esrey Development Group, will open later in Q4 of this year.

    Cohen-Esrey Communities (CEC) has assumed management of 26 affordable apartment communities totaling 2,222-units for a third-party client. The properties are in Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas. Cohen-Esrey has extensive experience managing tax credit and Section 8 properties. Since its inception in 1970, the company has managed more than 82,000 units across the country.
