Exciting news: Coastal Carbon's AI based underwater seaweed sensing project has secured funding for a $1.6M project from Canada's Ocean Supercluster! The ground truth data generated by this project will massively increase biomass measurement accuracy of Coastal Carbon's AI models, helping seaweed farmers like project partner HoldFastNL optimize harvest operations and quantify the impact their operations have in sequestering carbon and increasing biodiversity with greater transparency. Thanks to HoldFastNL, Canada's Ocean Supercluster, and the Government of Canada’s Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence Strategy for supporting Coastal Carbon’s mission of combating climate change and restoring our oceans. “The Government of Canada is pleased to support Canada’s Ocean Cluster as it drives AI solutions for Canadian ocean companies. Through this biomass monitoring project, seaweed farmers will be able to optimize their capital deployment, enhance harvest planning, and ultimately scale their operations more effectively.” – The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.
