Mobilizing the voice of the workforce to urge companies to go “all in” on climate change
About us
Our mission is to mobilize the voice of the workforce to urge companies to go “all in” on climate, both in business practices and policy advocacy. Unleashing the muscle of the corporate sector will be a climate game changer, tipping the balance on policy battles that are now stacked in favor of polluting industries. Achieving ambitious carbon reduction goals (50% by 2030 and zero by 2050) will take broad and sweeping action. These goals require urgent public policy changes at the local, state and federal levels. A mobilized workforce will make sure that companies step up and advocate.

🚨 NEW briefing from InfluenceMap shows the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Business Roundtable align with their most oppositional members in supporting legal action against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Both of these trade association's positions reflect 2 of its fossil fuel members (ConocoPhillips & ExxonMobil). Why are the rest of their members accepting and paying for that? 👀 Looking at you Alphabet Inc., Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, HP, Meta, Microsoft, Salesforce, Walmart. 🔗 Full briefing here: https://lnkd.in/gpDJXfnc

Thanks to Galen Hall for joining us for a ClimateVoices interview today! "Finally, employees need to recognize that their companies’ political stances aren’t set in stone. There’s a perception that corporations are perfectly rational, self-interested planners who know exactly what benefits they want to exact from governments. That’s not true. Corporate policy officers rely on cultural heuristics just like everyone else, and they’re just as vulnerable to social signaling. This means their minds can be changed. Employees can shape the internal culture at a company and redefine the “common sense” position on climate policy."

In this issue of #ClimateVoices, I'm pleased to speak with Galen Hall, a social scientist who researches climate and energy politics. After graduating in 2020 with a degree in physics from Brown University, he worked in the Brown University Climate and Development Lab, leading several studies on public counter-movements against greenhouse gas mitigation policies as well as state-level interest group politics. As a PhD student at the University of Michigan, Galen is continuing this line of research by leveraging big data to understand the dynamics of political influence across the United States.

building joyful community spaces for climate action 💚 climate founder 🌎 keynote speaker on social connection, climate anxiety, & designing for joy 📣
Truly such a career highlight to be interviewed by Bill Weihl and ClimateVoice, an organization that Soapbox Project has been looking up to pretty much since we first started! I'm writing this post en route to Drew Wilkinson & Holly Alpine (née Beale)'s spicy talk on Microsoft using AI to accelerate oil & gas extraction. PLUS I got to spend the earlier part of this week on a panel with them and Van Riker talking about how when employees speak up, COMPANIES LISTEN. It's all about finding the levers for change. Finding your people. Persisting. Every job is a climate job, and each of us has a voice we can use to protect our planet!!
In this issue of #ClimateVoices, I'm pleased to speak with Nivi Achanta, the Founder and CEO of Soapbox Project, a community-driven organization that helps people transform their climate anxiety into joyful action. Nivi works, speaks, and writes at the intersection of sustainability, corporate engagement, and community building. She has been featured by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Grist, and more for her community work. Before founding Soapbox Project, Nivi worked with companies like Accenture, Google, Facebook, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where she specialized in employee-driven impact. Nivi brings fun, high-impact Action Hours to workplaces around the world, and supercharges community strategy for impact-aligned organizations, specifically focused on gender equality and climate justice. Most recently, Nivi shared her insights as a featured speaker on ClimateVoice's panel "How Employees Can Advocate for Climate Policy in the Workplace" at PNW Climate Week in Seattle. Stay tuned for the recording!

The power of collective action can't be overstated when it comes to tackling #climatechange, according to Bill Weihl, Founder and chief strategic adviser of ClimateVoice. By working together, businesses can create a market demand for #cleanenergy and drive policy changes that benefit the planet. Key areas that need attention include transportation, buildings, and industry. To make a real difference, companies must advocate for climate policies and work together. Individuals can also play a role by supporting organizations that prioritize #sustainability. By pushing for policy changes, we can make a seamless transition to a low-carbon economy possible.
