Civics Unplugged is a 501(c)(3) social enterprise founded in 2019 that empowers leaders of Gen Z with the training, funding, and network they need to become civic innovators that build a brighter future for humanity. We are re-imagining civic education and sparking a global civic renewal. We do this by building a community of young leaders who are committed to realizing their potential, and supporting the flourishing of their communities and the world around them. Civics Unplugged is led by graduates of the CU Fellowship: an intensive three-month leadership program that trains thousands of high schoolers each year in the fundamentals of personal development, systems thinking, and civic literacy. The Fellowship prepares Fellows to take full advantage of CU’s Civic Gym, which offers year-round programming for Fellowship graduates to continue developing the knowledge, skills, and practices needed to realize their full civic potential. In addition to receiving training, members of the CU Community receive mentorship and direct financial investment to scale initiatives that catalyze human flourishing around the world. Our community represents all 50 U.S. States, as well as 47 countries around the globe spanning North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. 74% of our community identifies as women, 70% identify as BIPOC, and 22% are part of an active U.S. Military family. It is in this diverse community that the magic of CU emerges. Everything we do at Civics Unplugged is built with Gen Zers across the world, ensuring that everything we create relates to our target audience and stays relevant in a fast-paced environment. And given that our programming is digital-first, almost any student, no matter their location, can join this community and train to become a civic superhero. By the end of this decade, the Civics Unplugged movement will have supported the flourishing of millions around the world.

This role would be responsible for: 👉 Managing Civics Unplugged’s online community platforms, including a private community platform powered by Graduway, a community Slack workspace, and a private LinkedIn group 👉 Writing email copy for distribution to CU’s community of more than 4,000 fellows 👉 Designing graphics and invitations to promote CU Community events and programming 👉 Conducting outreach to community members and supporters for in-person and virtual events, as well as other community opportunities such as internships and funding 👉 Creating and evaluating microgrant applications, helping to disburse funds to grantees, and conducting check-ins with grantees to support their projects and overall grantee experience 👉 Building lifelong relationships with some of the most extraordinary leaders on the planet! Democracy Ambassador | Winner Future Leaders of the Year Competition 2022 | Honors Student Erasmus University College
Attending the World Forum for Democracy 2023 in Strasbourg has truly been a life-changing experience. 🌐 For three days, we delved into the different facets of this year’s theme “Democracy = Peace?”, exploring the capacities of democracies to ensure a kind of peace that is more than the absence of war. As part of the international youth delegation selected by the Council of Europe’s Youth Department, I had the exceptional privilege of connecting with other young people from around the world and participating in the forum as a discussant. In this role, I got the chance to share my thoughts on civic education, empathy as a tool for fostering peace and the importance of involving youth more actively in democratic decision-making. While the plenaries, forum talks and labs provided some valuable impulses, it was the conversations with other youth delegates and conference visitors that taught me the most about the actual fragility of democracy and peace. Listening to their stories of oppression and resistance was disillusioning and humbling but also so important and necessary. It made me reflect deeply on my own privileges and motivated me to continue with my advocacy work. 📣 Therefore, I’d like to express my deep gratitude to the Youth Department of the Council of Europe and our trainers for this opportunity, the amazing preparation and the ongoing efforts to empower young people in such environments. 💪 Thanks as well to Civics Unplugged for sparking that passion for youth participation in me and being such a wonderful, nourishing community. I wouldn’t be here without you. 🚀 Finally, the biggest thank you goes to my fellow youth delegates who made this time in Strasbourg absolutely unique. Your dedication and courage have been a major source of inspiration and I feel so lucky to have shared so many happy moments with you.
