Our staff can do it all! Building Inspector Jake Berger was out on a residential inspection when he came across a fawn trapped in a hole and knew he had to act. With momma deer watching intently from the woods, Jake safely got the baby out and reunited them. Jake also told his story to The Oakland Press, where it was featured on the front page (https://lnkd.in/gwntMmJR)! Well done, Jake!

We held our final Leadership RH class at Bloomer Park on Wednesday and it was nothing short of amazing. This group of employees is extremely special and have formed some great connections over the past nine months. Our goal with this program is to break down silos in the organization, introduce people to coworkers they may never see and help them grow as leaders. Super excited to see how these employees continue to make a positive impact in the City! #Leadership #Teamwork #Innovation

This story is too good not to share! Just last week we had to announce that our beach wouldn't be able to open because we did not have enough lifeguards. People were - understandably - upset because they love the beach and they love that we are one of the few beaches with lifeguards. All of the attention from that post led to 60+ applications in just nine days and on Saturday we will be opening our beach. A lot of the behind-the-scenes credit goes to our Parks team and Spencer Park Ranger Chris Parsell, as well as HR star Celeste Mansour. Cannot wait to see people enjoying the water this weekend!

It's Building Safety Month and our Building Department has been very intentional about interacting with the community, answering questions and sharing safety messages. They have hosted kid's clinics at Home Depot and Lowe's, talked to neighbors at the OPC Social & Activity Center, met with students at our local high schools, and on Thursday, May 30 from 9-11am will be hosting "Coffee with Inspectors" at City Hall. Their dedication to their craft is unmatched!

Our community is full of innovative companies making a difference, and this afternoon we were invited to one of the best - Molex. The company was wrapping up its three-day Innovation Leadership Summit with a service project, making 50 bikes and 25 STEM kits to benefit foster children from CARE House of Oakland County. The smiles and camaraderie were awesome to see on a beautiful day in Rochester Hills!

Excited about all the upgrades coming to Spencer Park this year, including a newly paved parking lot, paved trail around the lake and so much more! The beach is going to open Memorial Day weekend per usual, but may close earlier this summer to allow work to progress. To cope with the inconvenience, we have discounted annual park passes by half! So thankful for our partnership with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and the work they do to keep our community safe. We hope during National Police Week - or every week for that matter - you stop and say thank you for their selfless sacrifice.
