When the crowds are gone, this team is still here. Meet the Cedar Falls Public Works Operations and Maintenance Division! Following a busy month in Cedar Falls which included the arrival of Sturgis Falls and the Cedar Basin Music Festival, crews have been working tirelessly to keep our city running smoothly. To help make the celebrations possible, these individuals transport picnic tables, haul trash from our local parks following the events, weed flower beds, preserve park lawns and turf, and conduct parade clean-up. This is in addition to their regular duties which include outdoor maintenance (trails, parks, landscaping, streets, cemetery, recycling, refuse, and arborist work) and garbage collection routes. With flooding impacting our area earlier this summer, the team has also focused on flood prep and clean-up. We are grateful for their hard work and the pride they have in making our city a beautiful place to call home. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has honored Cedar Falls Officer Kyle Janikowski for his outstanding enforcement efforts, naming him a MADD Hero Award Winner. As an honoree, Officer Janikowski was recognized for going above and beyond to save lives through enforcement and education of impaired driving laws in 2023. Officer Janikowski has been a member of the Cedar Falls Public Safety team since 2022. He is a certified Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Instructor. In 2023, his dedication to keeping our local roads safe through the enforcement of impaired driving laws resulted in 56 OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) arrests. MADD Iowa honored 37 officers from across the state with MADD Hero pins and certificates during a celebration on June 27 at the Iowa Cubs baseball game in Des Moines. These officers were nominated by others in their department for their efforts in saving lives through traffic enforcement and public education. Awardees hailed from the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, County Sheriff Offices, and local Police Departments.  #CedarFalls #Iowa #PublicSafety

Located next to First Street, the project was made possible by the Rotary Club of Cedar Falls to honor their 100th anniversary as well as the impact of essential workers worldwide.
