  • ⚠️ City of Appleton Storm and Flooding Update⚠️ During the evening of July 13, a storm again caused localized flooding in Appleton and surrounding areas in addition to some damage to trees. Preliminary National Weather Service data indicates that over 3 inches of rain fell on parts of the city in a short period of time. Water levels are receding and most street flooding has already subsided. Reports indicate that residents in some areas of the city, including those affected by last week’s flooding, again experienced flooding in homes. Our city departments responded immediately and continue to be deployed throughout the City to address the situation and ensure the safety of our community. Check out this message from Mayor Woodford , who is is on the ground monitoring the situation and coordinating the response efforts. 👉Current Actions: - Additional staffing has been deployed. - Crews are actively barricading streets and removing them as water levels recede, leaving them on terraces for potential reuse. - Manhole covers blown off by storm sewer surges are being put back in place. - Ongoing inspections of sanitary and storm mains ensure proper water flow without blockages. - Forestry crews are addressing damaged terrace trees. Specific ponds are being monitored to ensure they drain as quickly as possible. - Focus on public safety, blocking and/or barricading impassable roadways. - Maintaining constant communication with the - US National Weather Service Green Bay Wisconsin for the latest updates. - Coordinating ongoing responses with partner agencies and higher levels of government. ✅ Safety Tips: - Avoid flooded areas: Rivers, streams, and standing water can be dangerous. - Limit travel: Stay off roads unless necessary and avoid driving through flooded areas. - Stay informed: Follow us for updates on recovery efforts and road closures. 📞Need help?   • ‼️Recent Flooding UPDATE‼️ The City of Appleton is actively responding to recent flooding in areas of the community resulting from extreme rainfall during a short period of time on July 5, 2024. City departments responded swiftly during and after the storm that passed over a portion of Appleton, and efforts have been ongoing to assess the event and identify potential means of support for residents in need. Mayor Woodford and alderpersons with residents affected have been in contact with many members of the community who experienced flooding. The city is organizing support efforts, including special trash collection for affected areas, partnering with the American Red Cross on clean up supplies, and pursuing additional resources from state and federal authorities as well as any philanthropic support that might be available. Mayor Woodford, city staff, and members of the Common Council have been working together to try to bring support to those in need at this challenging time. ✅Gov. Evers Declares State of Emergency Following Flash Flooding in Northeastern Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers has signed Executive Order #234, declaring a state of emergency for Calumet, Outagamie, Waupaca, and Winnebago counties due to severe flooding. According to the order: “The flooding, caused by heavy rainfall on July 5, led to evacuations in Appleton and Manawa and a dam embankment breach in Manawa.     We are excited to announce that Valley Transit has been awarded a $12 million grant for the FY24 Low-No Emission and Bus Facilities programs by the Federal Transit Administration. This funding will enable us to enhance the safety, reliability and environmental sustainability of our public transportation services throughout the Fox Cities communities. Furthermore, today’s announcement, part of approximately $1.5 billion across 117 projects, will introduce about 1,100 new buses nationwide. We extend our gratitude to the City of Appleton Wisconsin for their invaluable support in elevating our riders' experience. #busmonth
