💼 LinkedIn Friends! We have a job to do. 🟢 27,951 people were re-housed - a record. 🚩 Root causes of homelessness must continue to be addressed. 🚨 Unemployment is a leading reason why someone experiences homelessness. There’s hopeful news coming out of this year’s homeless count, and it’s important to remember the role of jobs and employment services in keeping that progress going. The LA region's unified approach and coordinated efforts to address homelessness have led to small but meaningful decreases in homelessness for the City and County of Los Angeles. Permanent housing is up 18% to an all-time high: Nearly 28,000 housing placements in 2023, bringing the total over the last seven years to more than 110,000. While the results released this morning by LAHSA brings positive news, homelessness obviously persists at unacceptable levels, and we have a job to do. The same root causes of homelessness exist throughout Southern California including the regions such as Orange County and the Inland Empire where Chrysalis also provides services. 54 percent of people surveyed during LAHSA’s 2024 count, stated that unemployment or financial reasons were the leading factor behind their loss of housing. 📢 Policymakers should support programs to solve homelessness with employment, but business owners and hiring managers don’t need to wait for government action. Across California, employment social enterprises have a remarkable number of candidates for jobs that businesses need to fill. There’s no better way to be part of solving homelessness. >>>Catch up with Los Angeles Times reporting here: https://lnkd.in/gB-M8sus

A nonprofit organization changing lives through jobs
About us
Mission: Chrysalis serves people navigating barriers to the workforce by offering a job-readiness program, individualized supportive services, and paid transitional employment. We empower our clients on their pathway to stability, security, and fulfillment in their work and lives. Program: Chrysalis empowers individuals to overcome their barriers and prepare for, attain, and retain employment. Whether a client comes in with specific ambitions in mind or never having considered what their professional journey might look like, staff and volunteers provide them with individualized support during every phase of their job search. Throughout the program, clients learn to identify their strengths and set goals; creating plans for accomplishing them and building the skills needed to do so. We provide numerous resources, including case management, job-readiness curriculum, resume preparation, practice interviews, access to computers, professional attire, and support groups. Our philosophy is that a steady job is the single most important step in a person’s transition out of poverty and onto a pathway to long-term self-sufficiency. Chrysalis’ core program provides structure and support to promote client success while fostering clients’ ability to make individual choices in pursuit of their goals. Transitional Jobs Program: Since 1991, Chrysalis Enterprises has provided transitional jobs for our clients with the greatest barriers to gaining employment; providing them with the chance to build real-world skills, confidence, and develop necessary work experience. These programs provide street, highway, and building maintenance, as well as janitorial, warehouse, front desk, and general staffing solutions to 100+ communities and businesses across L.A. and Orange Counties. Centers: Chrysalis operates centers that are located where homelessness and poverty are most pervasive: on Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica, the SFV, OC, and Inland Empire.

Today’s headline from the Los Angeles Times Editorial Board: Clean California is ending. So are jobs for formerly homeless and incarcerated people. California should fund critical opportunities that prevent homelessness, help people find employment after incarceration, and keep our roads safe and clean. This funding must continue to exist in order for our communities to work and thrive. Calling on Chrysalis supporters to help us and our partners preserve hundreds of transitional jobs. https://lnkd.in/egjjBunZ
