“I now have a chance at a better future for my children.” In the community of Monte Castillo, Peru where Carmen Cárcamo lives, 80% of the population lives in poverty. Carmen has faced obstacles because of the lack of resources. She grew up without an education, and it's been difficult to support her family. When she heard about CHOICE, she knew it was a turning point. She joined the Asociación Milagro de Jesús, a women's association supported by CHOICE. Together with 23 other hardworking associates, she has learned how to start a livestock business and produce meat to sell for additional income. But this group is about more than just revenue. These incredible women are gaining confidence and self-reliance. Carmen was even elected as president of the group. She expressed, "I am a leader for my family and my husband respects me for how strong I have been. 🌎 The municipality of Chisec is about to get some fresh new hairstylists! 💈 As part of a skills development course in rural Guatemala, 17 students were recently accredited with a diploma for completing 40 hours of hair-cutting training. ✂️ CHOICE Humanitarian works with rural communities and its citizens to identify ways to break the cycles of poverty through income generation, skills building, and much more.
