This video was screened as part of the Department of Urban Planning and Policy's Housing Justice Panel and Reception on January 30th, 2024 at the National Museum of Mexican Art. As part of UPP's 50th Anniversary, we honored the legacy of Dr. Janet Smith with a provocative conversation around the critical topic, “Where are the most vulnerable to live?” Housing justice has been a core part of the department’s identity and community engagement, as exemplified by Janet’s tremendous contributions to affordable, public, and accessible housing in Chicago and beyond. The event featured comments from Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez, Sue Loellbach, and Dr. Kate Lowe. Panelists included Adella Bass-Lawson, Joy Hammel, Tania Kadakia, and Doug Schenkelberg, with angela hurlock as moderator. We thank all of our participants and attendees for making this a special evening. https://lnkd.in/gUBDwWwJ

After over a year of planning and piloting, I'm excited to share that PHDC has a new take on an old idea - give the owners of Philadelphia's naturally occurring affordable housing loans to address deferred maintenance and improve energy efficiency in exchange for 10-15 years of rent stabilization. I'm incredibly proud to be leading the creative & dedicated team that is making this program run smoothly day in and day out! https://lnkd.in/ep_vzUjU
