Last week I had an opportunity to share my cancer story at Chicago Interactive Marketing Association (CIMA)'s first annual cocktail fundraiser for Cancer and Careers. That crucial first line didn’t land – despite my dedicated “how to give a Ted Talk” research (sorry, Sage Stargrove!) – but I’d like to think the lessons did: ✨ Support changes outcomes – and asking for help created and deepened personal connections. ✨ “Is it a prison or a school?” Ask yourself this question of any unpleasant situation to shift your mindset toward the lessons you can learn from life’s non-elective courses. ✨ There is freedom when you move from an ego-driven toward a soul-drawn life. Your ego craves validation and fears change – even when your present isn’t working for you. Making a conscious choice not to focus on pleasing others allows you to listen to yourself (and your body). Meeting individuals who shared their own cancer stories affirmed the importance of workplace support and strengthened my commitment to do what I can to make it more likely that others will receive it. If you’re motivated to help, here are two things you can do: 📢 Champion the Working with Cancer Initiative at your own company, or the company of an impacted friend or relative so more people know their workplace will support them.
